It is a genius idea. It would be more practical if it used internet messaging instead of text message. This would be possible. I just have to reprogram the bios for the microwave and create some hardware that could interact with the phone that I'd hook up to it. I could also take out the number pad and replace it with an Android phone. This way its more of a smart system. I could even make it play ads for however long you would be heating your food up for. Nobody likes ads, but everybody thinks microwaves are too slow. For people standing there waiting for food, it would help pass time.
By the way. Did you know that time travel is possible right now? But only to the future and only at a rate of one second per second. No returning to the past with this time travel though.
Anywho, I think that with a bit of work, the original idea that Okabe had could work.
