AN: so here's the first part of the rewrite of the date...
Simon Lewis knew his first date with Isabelle Lightwood had to be spectacular. It was what she deserved. Having to go through Simon's amnesia following the demon realm and his ascension was more than she should ever have had to to deal with. And the moment he remembered how much she meant to him, he vowed he would only ever try to bring her joy; he never wanted to hurt her like that again.
The first step, of course, would be to sweep her off her feet. Again, he guessed, since he technically did before he got amnesia. It wouldn't be the same as before, since he wasn't the same as before, when he was a daylighter. All he wanted was to make her happy again, as happy as she was then, even if it was different.
And so, he tried something completely different
****When Simon showed up to the Insititute with two dozen blood red roses, Isabelle knew she was in for one hell of a ride with this boy.
Prior to this wonderful view of a cute guy bringing roses to her, she had been having the most un-wonderful Tuesday evening. She did the same thing she did every single day; train with Jace and Alec, then prepare to patrol the city for demon activity. She had been Christening her seraph blades when he turned up. Of course, in typical Simon fashion, he tripped over.
The two dozen roses slipped from his hands, petals flying everywhere, like a cascade of scarlet throughout the entryway to the Institute. Shocked, her grip on the seraph blade she was still holding slipped. It clattered to the floor, the glasslike material creating almost a ringing noise on the solid hardwood floor. Encapsulated by the strange beauty of the rose petals falling, Izzy didn't see as Simon fell into her, taking them both to the floor with a hard thud.
Shadowhunter instincts kicking in, Simon immediately pushed himself up off her enough to allow her to breathe but remained hovered over her to ask, "Iz, you okay?" The roses and her seraph blade had been abandoned - all that mattered was the two of them. Izzy lifted her hands to his lightly muscled chest and gave him a gentle shove. "I would be," she let out a breathy laugh "if you'd let me sit up."
"Right." Simon shook his head and chuckled under his breath, pushing himself off his hands and on to his feet. After dusting off his knees, he extended his calloused hand to her. The hand was promptly swatted away as she hauled herself up to join him standing. Knowing he had only offered her his hand to be polite, not because she needed it, she immediately apologised for rejecting his chivalrous gesture. "Sorry about that, old habit from growing up with Jace and Alec." Standard answer. "Plus, if you're looking to be my knight in shining armour, you know rescuing me from this lovely floor, maybe next time you should try to not be the one who falls on me." Giggling flirtatiously, she shoots him a wry grin and a subtle wink. Again, a standard response for Izzy.
"See, that's where you're wrong Isabelle dearest; I was simply looking to right my wrong by assisting you in standing, because I was the one to knock you over." Simon proceeded to take her hand and gently bring it up to his lips, which he grazed over her knuckles so lightly it was barely a whisper of a kiss.
She left her hand in his and pretended to faint by bringing her other hand to her forehead. "Oh I am positively swooning, Mr Lewis." That set them both off in fits of giggles that had Izzy on the floor again from laughter. It took her minutes to calm down enough to stop clutching her stomach. She couldn't remember the last time she'd laughed so much: so genuinely.
"Okay, now I feel we must address the roses..." Simon said awkwardly.
"That would probably be good, yes." She emitted a sound that was somewhere between a giggle and a sigh.
Simon let out a heavy sigh. How to do this? He had had a plan, which no longer worked because she'd seen the roses and him. The element of surprise was gone, so he needed a new way to do this. Izzy watched him patiently, as he struggled to get the words he wanted to get out, like his usual, dorky self.
"Okay, well, um, I, eh, I was trying to, um, like, ugh, I had a plan. This wasn't meant to go like this..." He sighed again. "Screw it, I'm just gonna do it. The roses were part of an elaborate scheme concocted by one Jace Lightwood to help me ask you out in the most spectacular way possible. I guess falling on you is a pretty spectacular way to ask you out right?"
