Jack and Ffionn reaches Stephan's room, and looked at the door. Ffionn knocked on the door and smiled at Jack. Jack half smiled back, wondering who this "Stephan" was.
"Who is it?" The voice on the other side sounded grumpy. "Hurry, I'm busy with something."
"It's me Steff, Ffionn," Ffionn replied and opened the door.
The room which Jack saw was a clean and orderly room, filled with medical supplies and the normal bedroom essentials. He then saw a tall yellow bunny sitting at a desk on the other side of the room, his back to them and working on something.
"Look, Steph, we have a new visitor!" Exclaimed Ffionn.
"Oh fuck off Ffionn, I don't have time for your foolishness," the yellow rabbit replied with an angry tone of voice. Jack started to get scared and stepped back behind Ffionn, looking over his shoulder.
"It's ok Jack, he can get like this sometimes, but he's actually a really nice guy once you get to know him," Ffionn said, pushing Jack into the room.
Jack stood there as the yellow rabbit called Stephan turned around and stood up. He saw Jack and looked at Ffionn.
"Who is this kid, Ffionn?" Stephan asked and walked over to Jack.
"I-I'm Jack," Jack stammered, getting intimidated by this weird bunny doll creature who was at least four or five inches taller than him. Stephan looked Jack up and down and noticed him scraped arm was bleeding.
"How'd that happen, kid?" Stephan asked Jack, giving him a questioning look.
"I j-just tripped over a tree r-root, si—I mean, mister Stephan sir," Jack replied, remembering the rules in the orphanage to always address your superiors as "sir" or "ma'am."
Stephan also noticed the bruises covering my body. It reminded him of his childhood, getting abused by his parents everyday.
"What're these from, kid?" Stephan asked as he grabbed one Jack's arms and looked at it.
"M-My daily b-beating Stephan s-sir," replied Jack, thinking they would know.
Stephan stopped and looked at Jack in the eyes. "What did you say, kid?"
Jack looked back at him. "I s-said th-they're from my d-daily beating S-Stephan sir."
"Oh my god," said Ffionn, walking over to Jack and putting a hand on his shoulder, "did you say daily beating?"
"Yessir, F-Ffionn sir, d-daily," replied Jack, waiting for the bullying, for the teasing. But Stephan just looked at him in the eyes and was reminded of his childhood again.
"Get him outta my sight," Stephan grumbled bitterly.
"But, Steph I thought—"
"I SAID GET THE KID OUTTA MY SIGHT, OK?" Stephan yelled.
"Ok ok Steph, just keep calm, I'll take him away," said Ffionn in a reassuring tone. "Cmon Jack, you can take a tour of the house with me."
Jack didn't move. He was scared stiff, and his body wouldn't move a muscle. He tried to say something but the only thing that came out were little squeaks.
"KID I SAID LEAVE!" Stephan yelled at Jack, which made Jack think of the orphanage.
"OK OK JUST DON'T PUT ME IN THE PUNISHMENT ROOM PLEASE PLEASE DON'T PUT ME BACK THERE!" Jack snapped out of the flashback as soon as he said it and ran back to Ffionn. Stephan looked at them then went back to work. Jack had started crying, and now was sobbing uncontrollably. Ffionn took Jack to the living room and sat down with him.
"Jack, it's ok, there's no Punishment Room, it's ok, don't cry," Ffionn said in a comforting voice.
"I-I'm sorry, I-I just h-had a bad m-memory, that's all," Jack said, still shaking and crying.
"Aw Jack," Ffionn put his arms around Jack and hugged him tightly. "It's gonna be ok Jack. There's no more orphanage."
"A-Are you sure?" Jack looked around anxiously.
"Yes, Jack, there's no orphanage here. It's ok. Why would you be scared of an orphanage anyways? Were you treated badly there? Aw, Jack," Ffionn held on to Jack trying to comfort him.
"I-It was awful there," Jack said. "I w-was beaten daily, made fun of daily, no one l-loved me there."
Ffionn let go of Jack and put his hands on Jack's shoulders. He looked at Jack in the eyes. "Well, you're not there anymore. We'll try to make you comfortable as possible here. Make you a part of the family maybe..."
Jack looked at Ffionn with wide eyes. "F-Family?"
"Yes, Jack, family."
Jack sat there and looked at Ffionn with wide eyes, thinking that this must be a joke or a prank or something. But what Jack didn't know is that Ffionn started to like him right away. Ffionn was like that to everyone. He was a kind, compassionate doll fox who tried to help anyone and everyone in need, and right now this boy sitting in front of him was in desperate need of love and a family.
"Jack, would you like to sleep in my room tonight? We'll find a room for you tomorrow, it's getting late and you look tired." Ffionn looked at Jack and smiled.
"Y-Yeah ok," Jack replied, smiling back.
"Would you like to hold my paw if it makes you feel safer?" Ffionn offered.
Jack nodded his head and Ffionn took Jack's hand in his paw and they walked towards Ffionn's room, Jack smiling the whole way.
