When it comes to leaving home or "the nest" as over protective parents tend to call it, you tend to reflect on every little object as something sentimental.
Oh, the hair brush I used everytime I embarked on a journey to the outside world... The pen i used to figure out the struggle of bills which half the time ended up in the corner of my mouth while contemplating whether to give up completely on adulting...
The "good ol' days".Yeah nah, definitely not the good ol' days. Today is the day I do what all young girls dream of doing. Moving in with their best mate. Recently my grandfather passed away and left all his belongings to me including his house which is out in the country where everybody knows everybody.
Alexis and I have been through thick and thin and she has been able to transfer from being a city vet to a small rural one who travels to their patients which had allowed her to come with me.
*buzz* *buzz*
I turn to my right and see a light coming from my now empty bedroom. Next to a full cardboard box on the hard wood floors is surely enough my phone which reads "1 new message"
Alexis- "Where we meeting bro?"
Of course, Alexis never remembers details.
Me- "For the 3rd time, we will be meeting at mine and head up there together. You got everything packed?"
Alexis- "Yep, heading over now. See ya soon!"
I slip my phone into my back pocket and pick up my last box of belongings.
Goodbye creaky floors that would scare me at night, goodbye ceiling fan that would always click when turn to medium, goodbye creepy basement...
Thats about as sentimental as it gets.Taking one last glance around the house I walk out that front door one last time.
Outside is my car, my trusty Subaru Liberty with a trailer on the back with my bike tied down firmly. I open the back door of the car and meet my first battle aponent... over packing. Squishing the last box into the back of my car was like pushing on a spring, if i had let go any sooner my work would have been lost.
I step back and scan my car. This is it, finally something new and fresh. Country air!
*beep* *beep*
Yep, she has arrived.
"Country road take me home to the place WHERE I BELOOOONG!" Alexis sings... uhh yells as she pulls up to my driveway.
I thought i over packed. This woman has a trailer filled with all kinds of furniture, her car so full you cant see in the back windows and her trunk is being held closed with a peice of rope around the toe-bar.
"What are you doing?" I ask as she hangs out the window.
"What do you mean? I am moving."
"You're entire house?! You know the house is already furnished right?"
"I like my furniture though. Plus we could sell the furniture we dont want for extra profit!" She says with a smile and a smart look on her face.
Of course she figures out a way to get money even when spending it.
"Are you going to keep judging my packing or are you going to get your butt in the car so we can get going?"
"Sounds like a plan."
I jog to my car door and climb in as i turn on the car. I immediately without thought put on my country music playlist and wave goodbye to my past.
Hello country road.
