I grit my teeth and force my knee upwards so the intruder falls to the side of me. I sit up and grab my gun, pointing it at the stranger. "Who are you?" I ask. Now that I had my sight back, I could see that the stranger was a tall man, wearing full black clothes and a black coat, half of his face was covered by a black mask, only showing the man's piercing blue eyes "Just someone who is trying to help" he says getting up. He places his hand on my gun, forcing it to point to the floor, his tone of voice lowers. "I know what happened last night, I saw everything. I saw how your eyes filled with immediate regret and pain. I know you didn't want to kill him" he says before leaving the room. I fall into my chair and place my gun on the table. Last night. It was a nightmare.
*flashback to last night*
I sit waiting in the middle of the woods, he would be here soon, thinking it will be a normal day, a normal talk. However it was not, a red flag had been marked on him, signaling his death day. He had gotten into a serious debt with local mobsters, some of the most powerful vampires in the whole vampire population. What they say goes not matter what the situation. His name was Warren, a childhood friend who looked after me when I was abandoned. He had my back and we trained together through assassin school. Maybe I should just tell him what's going on and what will have to happen if he doesn't pay his debt. Warren arrives and stands with me under the cover of the trees, rain had started to pour but this needed to be done. "Tayanne, I know what you've been sent to do, it's okay, I understand but I'm not going down without a final dual" he says taking his position. I nod and take my own, my hands shaking. Within a second, he summoned his demon. The demon lunges forward and cuts into me with his claws. I fall back and grip my arm, the cuts close but remain painful. I take my gun and attempt to shoot at the demon but it's too fast, dodging past my bullets and swiping at me again. Before it's claws make contact with my body, I raise my foot and kick it back so it falls at Warren's feet. "No demons, this has to be between us" I say breathing heavily. Warren nods and produces his hidden blades. As the rain pours, the sounds of metal clashing can be heard though the woods. Warren goes to kick my legs from beneath me but before he can succeed, I jump and kick him in the gut. Causing him to fall on his back, I fall down beside him and hold him down by his shoulders. Through his heavy breathing, he smiles "as sharp as ever, go ahead, complete your job" he says showing defeat, he hands me his blade "do it". My hands shake as I grip the blade, tears run down my face "b-but I-I" I stutter. "Tayanne! Finish your job" he shouts at me. My eyes shut and the blade plunges through his chest, I hear him choke. I open my eyes, the color was slowly draining from his face, blood stained my hands. Tears fog my vision as I hug him tight "I-I'm so sorry" I say through floods of tears "s-shut up you, listen. Y-you are one of the b-best god damn assassins I-in that place, do y-your job and move on. I-I'll be watching you always" he says, his voice getting quieter. His body goes limp and his dark eyes slowly close.
*flashback over*
I open my eyes, my head was pressed against my desk. Now was no time for flashbacks. I pick up my card from the commander and read it over. A group of Fae owe the company money from a recent favour. I need to go and collect the money no matter what, I've been given the option to use any means necessary. Fae are known to manipulate others, taking it as far as making people completely forget who they are. They have a high level of seduction and charm, they are smart, quick to move and hard to catch. "I'll have to be careful with this one, it's never just one fae on their own" I say aloud to myself as I gather my materials to form my plan.An hour or so had passed, I could hear thunder striking outside, black clouds had hidden tonights bright full moon. I had my plan ready, I would need to take my bike rather than the car as it would be quicker to escape in the chance that I need to make a quick get-away. The place I'm going to is a bar, a fae bar to be exact, meaning extra caution must be taken so I don't get caught under the fae's spell. The person I need to speak with is the boss and owner of the bar. He's known to everyone in the vampire community as he once seduced one of the most powerful male vampires we had at the time. He isn't picky, he'll go for anything that moves, all except werewolves, those he's scared of. This job is going to have to wait until tomorrow night, I have too much to prepare for. I get up from my desk and pick up my papers, shoving them carelessly into my backpack before picking up my gun and placing it in my waistband again. I leave my workshop and make my way towards the exit. I fish my keys out of my pocket and make my way to my car, to my surprise. Val was leaning against my car, she looks at me with slight worry in her blood red eyes. "what is it Val?" I ask as I unlock my car. She shifts uncomfortably "just wondering how you're feeling, I could hear you screaming from the other end of the building" she says getting in my car, a normal occurrence as she would want a lift home again. "you could? sorry, just bad thoughts you know" I say getting in and starting the engine. "anyway, where to tonight Val? yours or your girlfriend's downtown?" I ask as I pull out of the carpark. Val goes quiet for a moment, "mine, Zelluda broke up with me last night" Val says quietly. Val had been dating a frost fae named Zelluda after being seduced on a job a few months back. It was kept a secret as Val could have been killed for being in a relationship with a fae let alone a frost fae, the complete opposite to a vampire assassin. I gently place my hand on her shoulder "I'm sorry Val, there are more girls out there that would do anything to be with you" I say making my way to Val's apartment complex, she nods sadly in the darkness.
I pull up outside the complex, "here we are. No drinking tonight Val, take it from me, it doesn't help anything" I say as she takes her belt off. "I'll try not to, thanks Tayanne" she says leaning forward to kiss me. Quickly, I cover my mouth with my hand and speak with a muffled voice "Val, I'm straight remember. I also vowed never to commit to anyone like that" I say pushing her back alittle. She nods again and gets out of the car. Shutting the door and quickly rushing up to her apartment. I sigh and start to drive back home. I was sad for her, she finds it hard being alone but I doubt she'll be alone for long.
I finally make it home, I park my car and I go inside. kicking off my boots and dropping my backpack at the door. I make my way upstairs, too tired to eat anything. I undress and fall into bed, slowly closing my eyes before falling into a dark, nightmare filled sleep.
