i could practically hear the giggles coming out of monty's mouth as he turned to look behind at us every few seconds from looking at his phone. "tell monty to stop looking up jokes on the internet, he's laughing too much." the words falling out of the asian girl's mouth who sat next to me on the cramped seating area of the bus. her head lying on the cushion behind us while trying to get some sleep before the game that we had tonight. one of her eyes opening once and a while to see what the giddy boy that sat in the back of the bus ahead of the one that we were on was doing.

"he's probably looking at your halloween costumes that you wore as a kid," charlotte spoke from the other side of riley with her head resting on the cushion as well. charlotte's left side of her body dangling off of the seat since the seating was only meant for two people but we had three squished on one. my body rested on the corner that was created by the edge of the bus and the maroon covered seating.
chuckles escaped from my mouth when a smile only left charlotte's as a response to her joke.
"ha ha, very funny," riley spoke dryly as she lifted her head to look at the girl on her left, "i'll have you know that my farm animal halloween costumes era was golden."

"more like your prisoner costume was golden," i chimed into the conversation, "that black and white jumpsuit was the best thing that you've worn in your whole life." a loud laugh emitted from charlotte as a death glare was shot my way. i only shrugged my shoulders with a smirk on my face as i looked at my fuming best friend.

"you're so lucky i love you," riley said to me, still with a serious look on her face.

"awww, ryry, i love you too!" i leaned my body into her's wrapping my right arm over her body.

"awww, group hug!" charlotte added from the side and leaned into us as she wrapped her left arm over the mix of mine and riley's bodies.
"will you three shut up, there are people that want to sleep!" the sound of a voice that came from the back of the bus was no doubt aimed towards us. it came from the voice of a girl with red hair who had hated my group of friends and i after being denied by monty infront of a whole hallway of people. it was a week before one of those dances when the girls would ask out the boys and while the five of us were talking by the lockers the girl had asked to talk to monty alone. instead of taking him to a less crowded area she just brought him a few feet away from us. us four pretended to have our own conversation but we all knew that we were listening to theirs, and to make things worse i'm pretty sure that everyone else in the hallway was doing the same thing that we were. when she asked him to the dance she had on such a bright and wide smile but it soon faded to crimson red cheeks and a tight sealed lips when monty told her that he wanted to "fly solo." everyone in the hallway tired to hide their lingering eyes on her, but i'm sure that she had seen them. after seeing her reaction monty instantly felt bad, but realized that he had a right to say no. at the end of the day, riley, charlotte, and i decided to talk to the girl and tell her that she could join us to the dance since we were planning on going together, but when she laid eyes on us she called us brats, stuck up, whores, and mean girls.

"no jessica, we won't shut up because we can do whatever we want!" riley spoke louder while leaning her head towards the back of the bus. me and charlotte getting back into our original positions while giving each other a knowing look. everyone in our group had come to realize that riley was very overprotective over the people that she cared about and that she can get very intense sometimes. "it's a free country you little girl!" riley aggressively added on. earning a scoff from the girl but no reactions from other girls on the bus because they all knew that it wasn't a good idea to get involved with riley when she was yelling.

"but your name isn't even jessica" i heard girl say as she turned around to look at the upset red head. but no vocal response came, and it was probably an eye roll that responded to the questioning girl.
