Once we reach the compound it's like Lexie has completely forgotten about him. She turns to me and asks if I want to go to the hair place or if I have to talk to my parents before I do this.

I shrug. "They shouldn't care, it's just my hair, and I'm Dauntless right? This just comes with the faction, they, of all people should understand." I turn to her and give her a smile, but I'm not sure how much of that I meant.

She looks at me for a moment but then turns on her heel, " okay, but if they yell at you, I told you to go talk to them first." She says to me not even looking back. She just keeps on walking past all the other Dauntless. "I am not going down for telling you to do the right thing."

"Oh no, you're just telling me to put color in my hair and taking me to do it." I tell her slightly annoyed that all she can think sbout is herself getting in trouble. But that's just how Lexie is, so I've learned to hold my tounge.

"Well I need to touch up the pink in my hair, so I'm not really going just for you. I would be going there today anyway. Don't flatter yourself too much honey." She replies to me, so much sarcasm in her voice you could cut it and serve it with the cake. Lexie isn't usually like this so I wonder what's gotten into her. I brush it off, everyone has moody days, maybe it's her time of the month. I jog a bit to catch up with her and her long strides. Lexie is almost a foot taller than me so keeping up with her when she's just walking is a struggle, I would hate to see what it's like trying to keep up with her when she's full on sprinting.

When we get to the  hair place Lexie walks in and right up to the lady at the front desk. She knows everyone in here by name, while I haven't seen these people once in my life. She just says to the lady at the desk she needs a full recoloring and under streaks for me. I'm asked to sit and wait for someone to be available, while Lexie is brought over to a chair behind a wall, so I won't see her till she's done. I turn and pickup a book they have on a table full of crazy hairstyles and colors. I flip through it for a while waiting to be called, once I've gone through the whole book I still haven't been called or decided what I'm doing. When I look up I see the boy from the train car, he's looking right at me but when our eyes meet he looks away quickly. But then he looks up again and smirks a bit.

"I noticed you on the train today. I've never seen you around before. You're not a stow-away are you?" He asks me laughing a bit.

I laugh a bit, not because I thoughtit was funny but because I thought it would be rude not to-it would, wouldn't it?- and look back at him. "Oh, well, I'm not, but are you sure you don't mean my friend Lexie?" I ask, positive he's just a bit confused.

"I don't beleive Lexie is the girl who bumped into me while running was she? I also don't think she was the one sitting in the corner of the train car, not saying much." I look at him surprised. Usually people only notice Lexie, and he seemed to pay a great deal of attention to where I was sitting. I feel my cheeks getting hot. I don't mean them to, I mean, the only words I've ever said to him were the ones I'm saying now, there's no way I could be attracted to him in any way. I mean, I don't even know his name!

"I guess not." I saw quietly, looking down, " So what are you doing here? Getting some crazy cut or color like everyone else in this faction?" I ask him changing the subject.

"Nah, I'm not really into that. Im just getting a simple purple patch right up front." He shows me the spot by running his fingers through his hair. " What about you?"

"Well I wan't going to do anthing crazy, just a few purple strands undernreath. But I dont know, somethings making me want to go bolder." I look up at him and see him scowling. I look at him confused, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." He says perking up. "It's just, everyone goes "bolder" around here," he turns and looks at all the other people getting pink hair, or shaving half thier heads, or a combination of both. "I just think, not going "bold" is bold." He sits back satisfied with what he's just said.

I chuckle a bit. I never thought I would hear someone from this faction talk bad about going bold. Well except for me of course. "Okay, I guess I'll go smaller than planned. How about one purple streak right underneath."

He smiles, "I think" , says leaning across the chair, "that right here would be perfect." He pushes some hair behind my ear, and pulls out one little section of it. He hold it between his fingers, still leaning over the chair, smiling up at me.

I don't do anything. I just look at him, I smile a little, but I mostly sit there awkwardly. Thankfully, a lady called my name, "Arizona!" I jump up, but then am suddenly jerked down. I forgot he was still holding my hair. He says 'sorry' quietly and then we both laugh. I get up and walk quickly to the back of the place, holding the part of the hair he had picked out.

I go to the back and sit in the chair next to Lexie. She has her eyes closed and is talking to the lady doing her hair. I sit down next to her and tell the lady what I want. About 20 minutes later I'm walking out of the place with one purple streak in my hair. I look over at the sitting area to see if he was still there but he wasn't. He must be getting the purple in his hair. I see a peice of paper folded in the chair he was sitting in. I walk over to see what it is and see my name scrawled out in sloppy handwriting. I smile and put it in my back pocket.

I walk out of the place and run into my mom. "Oh, hi mom." I say turning to her,

"Hi, Arizona, what did you do to your hair?"

"Oh, nothing much, just this purple streak." I tell her pulling out the strand. My mom takes it and holds it in her hands, looking at it. I smile thinking about when he held it in his fingers. My mom drops it and looks at me with one eyebrow raised. I stare back at her, showing no expression.

She finally breaks the silence and looks at me "I need to talk to you about something tonight. After my shift in the kitchen." She sounds serious, so I don't question her. I simply tell her I'll be there and go over to the nearest bench. A few moments later the boy comes out, now with some purple hair. He looks over at me and waves but keeps walking.

I open the note I found on his seat with my name on it.

'Meet me by the chasm at 1am tonight  -Ashton'

I smile and put the note back in my pocket. I get up amd go to the pit where im sure I'll find Lexie or someone to hang out with.
