I sat on my bed with a book in my lap, Malik would be home soon. After seeing Emily, I went home and took a nap. Seeing her like that made me really upset, I knew she was trying but becoming a vampire was hard, even if she wasn't totally human before.

It was about two in the morning now, I had been reading Pride and Prejudice ever since I woke up from my nap. I heard my front door open and knew Malik was home. Practically jumping out of bed, I ran to greet him as he walked inside.

When I turned the corner I saw him taking off his shoes. I couldn't help but stare for a few moments, his clothes were dirty from whatever mission Cyrus had sent him on. As he stood up straight our eyes met, and I couldn't help but smile.

"Welcome home." I said softly, he returned my smile and walked over to me, wrapping his arms around me. I indulged in his scent, resting my head on his chest.

"I'm home my love." He kissed the top of my head before moving back slightly to look at me. "I hope your day wasn't too boring." I shook my head.

"No, I saw Emily today, and I took a nap, when I woke up I read."

"How is Emily doing? I know it's only been a couple days since she's awoken." We moved into the living area and sat down on our couch. The apartment was small but it also had everything we needed. The kitchen and living room were right next to each other but had a good size to both of them. We only had the one bedroom and bathroom, our home was small but cozy.

"Uhh well she's okay but she doesn't have control just yet, I made a report to Cyrus and he said it was normal and he would visit her before the end of the week." I leaned against him, resting my head on his shoulder. "So what did you do today?"

"I was in charge of training today, we have a few new warriors and I was the one to show them the ropes." I looked up at him.

"I hope you went easy on them." Malik smirked and brought his hand up to my chin.

"The only person I go easy on is you" I knew my cheeks were turning red, Malik leaned in and kissed my lips softly. I returned the favor, leaning in closer to him.

He broke the kiss and sat back, smiling at me while his chestnut brown eyes shined.

"Ready to finally watch the last Lord of the Rings movie?" I asked, Malik raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean finally?" I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"Because for one you still haven't seen it or even read the books, and two every time we watch a movie you wanna make out." He laughed and put his arm around my shoulder.

"Not my fault, you're the one who teases me." I rolled my eyes again but snuggled up to him.

"Yeah right." I mumbled as Malik grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. I had already place the movie in the DVD player a couple nights ago when we tried to watch it, but got a little distracted.

Malik hit play and set the remote down. I rested my head on his chest while he kept his arm around my shoulders as we spent the rest of the night together.

Emily

I woke up to the sound of the shower from the bathroom. Even though Devon had shut the door I could still hear every drop of water hit the floor and rush down the drain. It was annoying how well I could hear but Devon said it would get easier as time went by.

I sat up in bed and looked over at the clock Xavier had donated to us because I was tired of never really knowing what time it was. The clock hands read nine, and I was assuming that meant PM since I fell asleep around five in the morning.

I stretched and yawned, trying to wake myself up. Lately it was getting easier to get up and stay awake during the night, but I usually had to take a nap. I had a lot of trouble staying awake during the day time though. Devon told me once I was adjusted and my senses weren't on high all the time, I would be able to stay up most of the daylight hours if I wanted to.

It had been five days now since I had awoken as... well whatever I am. Vampire but still human I guess, I wasn't really sure what I was. I knew I was getting better and adjusting more to my new lifestyle though. My hunger has dulled a bit, I wasn't constantly famished with a case of severe dry mouth anymore. Light didn't bother my eyes as much, but noise still did for some reason, and again I wasn't sleeping all the time.

I heard Devon turn off the water, I could even hear his damp feet step out of the shower and onto the rug. I could hear him dry his hair with a towel and then wrap it around his waist. I heard him move, I heard his heartbeat, and I heard him when he opened the door.

"Wow I'm surprised you're awake Em, yesterday you didn't get up till almost midnight." Devon said as he smiled at me and I knew I looked like an idiot right then and there.

I hadn't expected him to walk out of the bathroom in only a towel, I couldn't help but stare. Yeah I've seen him shirtless before, but the towel hung low around his waist, causing me to see the top of his V line. His toned abs and chest still had drops of water slowly running down until they were absorbed by the now damp towel. His hair was wet and messy, giving him a very sexy look.

It was then that I noticed he was smirking at me with a devious glint in his eyes. I narrowed my own, he knew he was good looking and he knew I would be gawking at him in only a towel.

I quickly recovered and shrugged, pretending not to care about the tempting sight before me.

"Guess I'm just getting use to everything." I swung my legs over the bed and stood up, walking over to Devon. I got up on my tip toes to plant a kiss on his cheek before moving past him to the bathroom.

"You're done in here right?" I asked as I grabbed the door. He turned and for a second he looked confused, but it was quickly replaced by that smirk again as he reached for the towel.

"Yeah I'm just gonna get changed, bathrooms all yours." He winked at me, then turned his head forward again and slowly began taking off the towel. My cheeks flushed immediately and I shut the door quickly, almost slamming it. I heard Devon chuckle and I narrowed my eyes again.

I couldn't help the small laugh that escaped my lips. Things were getting better, especially between Devon and I. I looked in the mirror and smiled at my own reflection.

My eyes had returned to their normal light green and only turned red whenever I was hungry or feeling intense emotions. Devon told me they would also turn red whenever I used my abilities, if I had any that is.

I sighed, actually feeling good for the first time in what feels like forever. Things were looking up again, I just hoped it stayed that way this time.
