A WEEK PASSED since her birthday and Reign was still none the wiser on the topic of who in Merlin's beard she'd kissed. Normally, she wouldn't care who it was and would often forget about him the next morning, but for some bizarre, unidentified reason, Reign could not get her mind off it.
She found her mind wandering during lessons; thinking of the way his lips moved against hers so comfortably, how his gentle hands had felt so familiar against her skin, the way the soft, silky strands of his untamed hair tickled the side of her face as his mouth brushed against her neck. But she quickly snapped back to reality when Cora began asking questions, such as why she blushed and wore a genuinely content smile on her face.
Not knowing the identity the boy drove her practically insane. She subconsciously overthought every look and word a member of the opposite sex offered her, analysing the way in which he spoke and his bodily movements to see if there was even a possibility that the boy had been him. So far, she'd managed to rule out fifteen boys out of the ones that had been at her party, but there was no way she would be able to study eighty male students before the end of the year, and it wasn't even like she could continue the search when coming back the next year because the seventh years would've graduated and there was an equal possibility that the boy was a seventh year.
If Reign wanted a chance at finding this boy, she needed help, and so it was one Saturday evening, after dinner in the Great Hall, when she approached Cora, Reese and Julian and shamelessly told them about her little escapade.
"So," Reese said after a while, "you kissed a boy on your birthday, and what, now you think you're in love with him?"
Reign scowled. "Of course not. But, from the way he kissed me and how he stopped before it got too far, saying that he didn't want to do it if we wouldn't remember it, it seemed like he really cared."
"Wait, he stopped it? Why wouldn't he want to have sex with you, it might've been his only chance. You're a very wanted person, you know," Cora informed her.
Reign shrugged, "It's not that I don't think he wanted it, because he clearly did, but it was like he was restraining himself for my sake."
"For your sake? Why would he do that?" Reese asked.
Reign gulped and her eyes quickly shot up to Julian. He was literally the only person on the planet who knew Reign was still a virgin, and she wanted to keep it that way. Thankfully, he noticed and cut in swiftly.
"Well, you were drunk, and he probably didn't want to make you do anything you wouldn't have done sober."
"Makes sense," Reign muttered.
"Why are you telling us this?" Cora asked, then quickly added, "Not that I'm complaining about how you're finally opening up or anything."
"I was actually thinking you guys could help me figure out who the boy was," Reign said, letting just a hint of hopefulness seep into her voice.
"Of course we'll help," Reese said before the other two could say something, but Reign didn't miss the sharp glare Julian sent his way.
"Now hold on just one minute here --" he began to say, but Cora cut him off.
"I'm totally in. This could be fun, we could go undercover and stuff," she giggled excitedly.
"Wait --" Julian tried again, but Reese not-so-subtly elbowed his rib and shut him up.
"I think Cora's right," Reese said. "It provides a nice distraction from our exams." It also provided Reign with a distraction from the Dark Lord and his plans for her. The unspoken words clung to the air between them.
