The whole office seemed as if it had been let loose by the time that they got back from the cafe and almost every other woman there was eager to get out of there to prepare for the big event.
The men, on the other hand, simply wanted to get out of the office and were most excited about the open bar they were going to enjoy at the party.
Both Katherine and Amanda now felt festive as well, especially now that they actually have something to look forward to.
After forty five minutes, the two of them left the office for Amanda and Vivian’s place to prepare for the part while some of the other ladies headed to the nearest salon to get made up by stylists.
Katherine and Amanda found it impractical on their part to do the same since they didn’t really want to dress up extravagantly for the party. Both of them agreed that simplicity has its advantages and there need not be over preparation for that night’s party. They can still look pretty and simple wearing cute dresses and light make up.
They dropped by Katherine’s place first to get the red dress that Katherine bought during the weekend. They found Milo fast asleep on the living room couch with the TV on. Katherine turned off the TV and they walked quietly to her room to get the dress.
“He’s been like that since he started working night shifts. It’s like he can’t stand the silence during the day since most people around the neighborhood have work so he turns on the TV so he won’t get deafened by the silence,” Katherine rambled while looking for a pair of shoes in her closet that would go perfectly well with her dress.
Amanda looked around the room while Katherine rummaged through her messy closet to find her shoes. Katherine’s bed had been made, only there were pieces of clothing here and there probably because of Katherine picking out what she was going to wear to work that morning. Next to her bed was a bedside table where an alarm clock stood next to a lamp and a copy of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.
By the window, there was a desk where she put most of her art materials -- color pencils, drawing pencils, erasers, and a variety of sketchpads, all of which seem to not have been touched in a very long time.
“I didn’t know you drew,” Amanda said, thinking aloud.
“That? Oh. I, uhh, I haven’t picked those up in a while now,” Katherine replied as she came out of her closet.
Amanda picked up the sketchpad at the top of the pile to see Katherine’s artworks. They were wonderful portraits of people -- some were famous actors or musicians like Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Michael Jackson and many others, while most were regular people Amanda didn’t know, probably people Katherine knew before she moved there.
“Why haven’t you? These are amazing!”
Katherine sat at the foot of her bed while packing the things she was going to bring to Amanda and Vivian’s place.
“I just don’t have the time nor the will to draw anymore,” she finally said.
“But you shouldn’t stop doing something as amazing as these! I mean, look! Just look at how wonderful these are!”
Katherine blushed and smiled in her seat. “Thanks. Perhaps I’ll try and pick up a pencil this weekend.”
“You definitely should! Then perhaps you can put me in one of these and then we’ll frame it!” Amanda sounded excited with the idea.
“But if we do that, it would ruin my great collection of drawings!” Katherine joked.
“But why?” Amanda asked, with a serious look on her face, obviously not getting Katherine’s punch line.
