|JACI|
I stood awkwardly waiting in front of the stage for somebody to take notice of me and ask me why I was here. I didn’t see the teacher so I decided just to wait and hope for help.
“Hey!” Somebody cried.
“Ah! Sometimes I don’t know what I see in you!” A female voice yelled back.
The first person’s laughter rung out. “Babe! You know what you see in me! I’m handsome and funny! And-and I’m brilliant!”
“God you’re an idiot,” the girl said exasperated.
I spotted the owners of the voices. It was a petite girl with fiery red hair that was pulled back in a ponytail yelling at a very curly haired lanky boy.
“Um...excuse me.” I said shyly waving my hand at the two.
Their attention turn to me, and the girl came walking over. The boy came skipping over beside the girl. The girl elbowed him and hissed something to him before coming up to me. “What can I help you with?”
“I’m looking for the drama teacher...Mrs. Lully?” I said questionable of myself.
The redhead nodded, “She should be here in a few, why do you need her? If you’re trying to get into the play it’s already too late.”
I laughed at the thought of me in a play. “Err no. Mrs. Fray said Mrs. Lully needed an artist for the stage set.”
“Ehh...alright. She should be here any minute now though so if you just sit around she’ll come. I’m Lizzy by the way, and this dork in Forrest.” She pointed to the curly haired boy.
A smile pulled at my lips, “Jaci,”
Lizzy offered hand, which I returned. “Well it’s nice to meet you Jaci, I need to go back and show my boyfriend what’s up with eyeliner in the show busi.”
My eyebrow rose with concern but I nodded and took a seat.
Pulling out my phone I checked my messages only to find one from my brother.
Jay: Meet me at the car once you’re done with your stuff. Text me if it’ll take longer then my practice.
Quickly typing back I relayed Me: Alright, text you in a bit. Good Luck.
Jay: We are also going to have a talk about you leaving for lunch and coming back late with a boy.
My heart sunk and my stomach twisted in anxiety.
After that I slipped my phone back into my pocket. Right then the teacher came walking down the aisle to me.
“Hi, you must be the painter-Jacinda?” She asked holding out her hand.
Standing up and giving her an acute smile I said, “You can call me Jaci, but yes.”
“Alright. I’ll show you were the materials are, then I’ll have to try containing this zoo.” Mrs. Lully gestured to the students running about and laughing.
Following her up the steps on the side of the stage she walked me to behind the huge blank set to a closet. Retrieving keys from her pocket which she had her teacher badge and lanyard in she unlocked the door with a smooth click reflecting the schools recent updates to the theatre and other areas of the school.
“Here are the materials you need, I will get a janitor to help you with the platform to get you up and down to the top of the set.”
“Ok, so what would you like that set to be?” I asked her.
