A thoughtful look was planted on Katherine's face as several questions ran inside her head. She was lazily walking back up to her house, almost dragging her feet along the sidewalk. It has been a long day and now her body was tired and defeated. And to make matters worse, the nagging feeling of being watched still tugged her mind. Somewhere along the way back to her house, Katherine could've sworn she saw, in the corners of her eyes, a seemingly familiar figure in green standing in one of the dark alleys she had passed. But when she turned to check, she saw nothing but a brown fence. Sighing nervously, she decided to just dismiss this as her being paranoid.
Relief flooded Katherine's mind as she caught sight of the black metal wind vane glinting under the afternoon sun.
“I'm home,” she announced as she pushed the front door open. “Mom? Dad?” she called out after she had noticed the eerie silence lingering in the air. All the lights were out and it seemed that no one was at home. “Aunt Em?” Katherine tried again, turning on the light in the living room as she wandered around the house.
A few minutes passed util she finally noticed the yellow note taped onto the counter that separated the kitchen and the dining room. She clumsily hurried across the living room and peeled the note off the counter.
Sorry if we just so suddenly left. Your dad and I have an emergeny meeting to attend to and we'll probably be gone for a few days. But don't worry, we'll call you everyday to make sure you're okay. Don't give your aunt a headache. Oh, and if no one is still in the house by the time you get home, Em's probably still out to buy some groceries. She'll be back in a while.
We love you!
P.S. Make sure you lock all the doors and windows and don't let anyone you don't know come in. In case of emergency, call 911 IMMEDIATELY.
Love,
Mom and Dad
Katherine placed the note back onto the counter, sighing. She loved her parents but sometimes they seem to devote themselves to work a little too much. Guess she has some time to kill before her aunt gets back.
Katherine decided to do what she has been told and went to lock the doors and windows of the house before laying heself down on the cream-colored sofa as she stared at the ceiling. Shifting her gaze towards a rather large brown box just beside the telivision, a smile crept onto Katherine's face. And yet again, it isn't such a bad thing being alone.
The brunette rolled off the couch and merely crawled across the carpeted floor. She then sat upright as she grabbed the box and set it on her lap. A label that read: Video Games was taped onto the said box. This was where she kept some of the many video games she had. She didn't really bring “much” since they were only expected to stay there for a few weeks or so. Katherine happily opened the rectangular object, revealing its contents.
She then rummaged through the box for a couple moments until she finally found what she was looking for. Grazing a hand across the smooth label pasted on the cartridge, she mentally squealed in delight; it felt like ages since she had last played Majora's Mask. So far, it has been one of the best games she had ever played.
Katherine plugged the the telivision and her nintendo 64, turning them on. Just as she was about to insert the cartridge into the game console, a loud crash—which sounded like metals falling onto the floor—was heard from the kitchen. The brunette froze in place as her breathing hitched.
Someone else was inside the house! Panic, shock and absolute fear paralyzed the girl as realization set in. No way, no way, no way, no way..., she mentally shouted. She could have sworn she had closed all the doors and windows of the house. When she finally heard footsteps approaching the living room, a surge of adrenaline surfaced inside of her, making her sprint into a nearby closet faster than the speed of light. She closed the closet shut just in time before the figure stepped into the living room.
Inside the closet, Katherine quietly looked around for any possible thing that she can defend herself with, her eyes landing on a one of those big cane-like umbrellas (I don't know what they're called XD ). She reluctantly grabbed it, holding it in a standing position. She gripped the handle tightly as she tried to stay as quiet as she could, beads of sweat trickling down her face.
After a few moments, the door of the closet suddenly swung open, revealing a figure with a smirk plastered on their face.
“Boo.”
