The Orphans

Chapter 5

We’ve been sitting here for five minutes waiting for Simon to spill his alternative motive for helping us fulfill our non-existent dreams.  Patience is something I have, but my dearest friend Jenna lacks.  Which is quite ironic, because in case you haven’t noticed I’m the spontaneous spit fire in this wacky friendship, maybe she’s more like me then I’ve bothered to take notice to.

“Stop stalling Simon.” She says growing very impatient

He lets out a sigh before beginning.

“Have you heard about the band One Direction?”

“Yes,” we reply at the same time. If you haven’t heard of the band named One Direction by now then you live under a rock, under a boulder, in the middle of the earth.  Am I happy about knowing who One Direction is? I can’t say no, but I don’t really care.

“Have you heard about the recent scandal involving them?”

“Vaguely,” We answer again. I knew I should have tried to deifier the girl’s gibberish speed talking. Wow I never thought their conversations about those five boys would ever be of use.

“OK, well Harry was dating a girl named Ava and all the boys went out and got drunk. Well Ava and Zayn did um some very inappropriate stuff that would be considered cheating on Harry.  The fans are outraged and know all the boys are getting a lot of hate and losing a lot of loyal fans.   We are in the midst of having this competition where the boys would take a group or a solo artist and help them try to make it in the big time.   When your names came up we were amazed by the fact that you had such amazing talents while being orphans.  It would look really nice to the fans and the press if we helped make to orphaned girls dreams come true.”

“So basically we’re a publicity stunt,” I say getting very pissed off.

“No, no, no, well kind of, you could have easily made it into the final discussion but-“

“We get it,” I say cutting him off. God all business man are the same, the want money, power and people to help them clean up messes. I don’t want part in this anymore; he is just somebody scrounging for a way to keep sales up

“If you’ll excuse us for a moment,” Jenna says. I get the hint that she want to talk in private and follow her.

I know we weren’t thinking the same thing, just by looking in each other’s eyes.  I didn’t want any part in this, but Jenna did.

“You hate him,” she  puts on their bluntly

“Yup,”

“I know his intentions are bad, but he could help make our dreams come true!” I see so much hope glistening in her eyes, god I didn’t want to destroy that.

“Your dreams Jenna, as far as I am concerned, I have no talent.”

“Courtney! Don’t say that! You are just as talented as I am!”

“Hardly,”

“Courtney please listen to me, your voice isn’t from an angel. It has a rougher quality to it that makes it just as appealing. Not only that but you can play guitar and write music, if that’s not talent then let pigs fly!” I chuckle at her, she is so weird sometimes.

“Please Courtney, Imagine how amazing are lives will be,” I could all but read the fantasies flashing through her eyes.

“But he’s a donkey,”

“SO? Nobody ever said we have to like him.”

“Fine,” I say submitting to her, one thing that will never change is the fact that she always wins. But then a thought dawned on us and I knew we are back on the same page; we can’t leave all these girls alone and defenseless.

“Either we get them adopted or we get Cruella deville fired.” I state, I knew she would agree

“Adoption would be the easiest, we both know what the board thinks of her, gosh dang suck up.” Jenna points out.

“What percentage do we want to set?” Jenna says reading my mind. If a certain amount of girls got adopted then the house would be shut down and the rest would be placed in different homes.

I can’t help but let a small smile grace my lips.

“More than 60, I mean there are only 105 girls here,” I say smirking, Simon has a hell of a challenge awaiting him.

“Whoa, that’s a lot.”

“There using us as a publicity stunt, were allowed to make them sweat a little,” I say still smirking.

“If anything I was thinking 75%.” I continue

“I want as many of these girls out of here as possible.” I conclude

“75% is a lot…” Jenna trails off

“I know, but you know what? It’s not impossible.”

“True”

“Ready to go back in my dearest friend?”

She nods her head and we walk back into the room.  We sit across from a nervous looking Simon.  Jenna gestures for me to speak, I take a big breath.

“You’re probably well aware of the fact that the wi- I mean Mrs. Crueler isn’t the nicest care taker from my display earlier.  Jenna and I couldn’t possibly stand to leave all these girls on their own. So we have agreed on a percentage that you must reach.  If you do reach this percentage we shall gladly go with you, sign to a label and try to help the boys out.” I say in my business like tone

“Percentage of what?”

“Percentage of how many girls need to be adopted.”

“Oh,” He says with shock lacing his features. I almost felt bad, this a hell of task just to make up for some bad publicity.

“Shall that be a problem Simon?” Jenna says mimicking my tone.

“Not at all,” He says with false confidence.

Dang, he must really need this deal.

“65%” I say.  Jenna gives me a look because we agreed on seventy-five percent, but I couldn’t help but bad for the guy, he has to deal with us two and try to find A LOT of people to adopt.

“65.” He says trying to hold the fear out of his voice

“Do we have a deal Simon?” Jenna questions

“We have a deal.”

SSoo much better now! We have character development and plot!!! HOw three years changes things

This chapter is over a thousand words now
