Frankly, Raquel and Catherine didn't say anything to my mother. It was prom night and I zipped up the red gown that I had bought from the other day. I styled my hair into an up-do as all of a sudden, I heard my phone ringing. It was, of course, Ronnie.

"Hey, beautiful. Why haven't you shown me your dress?" I heard him say through the phone.
"I don't want to show you," I said dryly. "What's wrong, princess? You're not excited for tonight?" he pouted. "Sort of," I responded. "Okay, my princess," he said softly.
I hated it when he did that.
"Will you pick me up or will we just meet up there?" I assured him. "I'm going to pick you up, Sel. Just be ready by seven o' clock," he answered my question. I smiled because at least he'd take me but I wasn't sure what would happen tonight.
"You know, this is so weird," he continued.
"I don't understand, Ronnie. It's just prom," I giggled nervously, waiting for his response. There was a very disturbing silence between us, but I didn't mind. Soon, I heard Ronnie take in a deep breath and exhale the rest. "No, it's not that, Selena. I'm not weirded out by prom. I'm weirded out by the fact that it seems just like yesterday we were freshmen walking into Peighton for the first time. You had glasses, braces, and you wore your hair in a braid all the time. I hate it when I stereotype people, but you looked like the typical nerd. I'm so weirded out because you've changed...we've all changed; some of us in a bad way, some of us in a good way. That's when I realized our experiences change us," he finished and I was speechless.
"I didn't know you felt that way," I said speechless. "Well, I do, Sel," he said softly into the phone. The tension between us slowly grew and I decided to change the subject, "So, 7 o' clock?" And he just sighed deeply into the phone.
"Yeah, 7." And I heard the dial tone after he hung up.
"Oh, Selena. You look so beautiful, just like I did when I was your age," she giggled so confidently. My dad just looked at her and snickered. She nudged him in the arm and smiled at me. "When is your boyfriend picking you up?" He asked.
"Seven," I replied.
"Oh, you better get going with these pictures, Regina!" He said to my mom as he looked at the time. "Ooh, right," she chuckled as she started snapping probably a thousand pictures in those moments. In some, I must've had my eyes closed and I prayed she would delete them.

Suddenly, horns were honking outside as I looked down and blushed. Ronnie.
What the hell is wrong with me?
I looked through the blinds and saw him fixing his hair while he sprayed something into his mouth. Oh Lord. I felt myself gasp in awe as I saw that he had a red tie, the exact same color as my dress. Obviously, he knew that I was going to buy a red dress for him, but girls who are falling for a boy will think anything he does is cute, sadly. I was positive that he went to the barber earlier that day and whoever cut his hair did a pretty great job.
It's such a funny thing, isn't it? To feel like your entire world revolves around someone who might be irrelevant in the near damn future. Although, it's okay because we don't care. We absolutely do not care if the person we love is close to killing us. When you're dangerously in love, it's such a masochist feeling. I mean, to be in love with a maniac? We might not understand what is so funny about it at first but as we further into the pit of Desperation, we'll soon begin to realize.
Ronnie's POV
I was shaking like a chihuahua inside my car and I didn't feel normal. Normal people don't shake like dogs with big heads. I saw the girl that I'm in love with walk out of the door with attitude. Normally, I'm not a religious person but I wanted to thank God for blessing me with this beautiful girl who I'd never let go of. I was in love with her smile, her eyes, her hair, and her personality. I don't know why I ever hurt her, but I knew I was crazy. She walked towards me and placed a strand of hair behind her ear as she smiled at me.
I opened the door and hopped out to greet her parents and they smiled fondly. "Oh, it's so great to finally meet you, Ronnie!" Selena's mom brought me into her arms, "Jesus! Frank, look at this boy. He's like 6"4," she gasped.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Martin," I smiled. "Please, call me Frank," he smirked.
"Mom, Dad! We have to go," I heard Selena whine behind me. "Oh, darling. There's no rush Picture time!" My mom squealed as she pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of us. Selena and I both smiled while we waited for her to take the picture. "Okay, have fun!" She laughed as she hugged Selena's dad. I could sense that she was about to cry but I just smiled faintly while Selena hugged both of them. She let go and I opened the door for Selena as she hopped in with her long, red gown. I went around the other side and put my keys into the ignition. It was getting late but luckily, our school wasn't that far from here. "Hey, Ronnie," she smiled. "Hey, how are you feeling?" I asked her.
She looked outside of the window, "I'm feeling fine. You?" She looked back at me. I smirked, "Great," and we shifted onto the highway. "Do your friends know about us?" she asked me with a raised eyebrow. I ignored her question and turned up the radio. Sweatpants by Childish Gambino was on. "Ronnie!" I heard her through the music.
"Don't...start, Selena," I snarled at her.
"I'm sorry but it just feels like I'm your secret girlfriend. And you haven't even asked me to be your girlfriend. Are you embarrassed of me?" she said softly. "No, Selena! Stop putting words into my mouth," I said as we slowed down into a stop due to traffic. All of a sudden, All I Have by Jennifer Lopez started playing. Wonderful. The perfect way to ruin a relationship.
All my pride is all I have
(Pride is what you had, baby girl, I'm what you have)
"If you wouldn't date me just because you're worried about what people would think of you, then you're a bigger fool," she cleared her throat, "than I thought you were," she scoffed. "What are you saying?" I gasped.
"I refuse to be somebody's second option. After this night ends, I am never speaking to you again," she said bleakly. "Yeah, right, You can't resist me, Selena Martin," I snickered. "Bet," she came up close to me, "that you can't resist me either," she smirked. I breathed in heavily and sighed out furiously. She was doing this to me on purpose, I know it. "If I can pretend to not know you exist when I'm with my friends, I can do it with true intentions," I chuckled.
"Oh, really? So can I. Don't think that guys aren't after me. They think I'm single, Banks and I can pull one in a minute," she sat back down into her seat. "You wouldn't dare," I looked at her. She started cackling, "Oh, believe me, Banks. We all know that I would!" She said loudly.
Suddenly, a car beeped at us for driving on the wrong side of the road.
"Ronnie! You're going to get us fucking killed!" she hit me in the arm. "Well, I'm sorry if you're distracting me!" I shouted back at her. She sighed softly and looked down, "Why do you have to treat me this way? All I ever did was love you and all I ever wanted was for you to feel the same," she said with tears.
Oh my God. Here we go.
"Selena, you know I lo-----"
"Oh, don't act like you love me when all you do is treat me like shit! What did I do to deserve to be treated like this? You act like your friends are going to kill me if you're with me," she wailed. "You have no idea," I thought. We suddenly pulled up to the school to find Derek, Christopher, and Michael outside. Oh no. This cannot be happening.
"Ronnie?" Selena whined, "They look mad."
"They do? Damn it, let's go through the back," I whispered into her ear as we drove out and into the back of the school. We waited there in awkward silence when we both looked at each other at the same time.
"I have to tell you something," Selena said.
"What is it?" I asked her. "I don't know how I'm going to say it, but here it goes," she sighed and boy, I regretted asking.
