AN: hey so here it is the start of the story, hope you like it.

Walking slowly down the hall, Maia could hear the footsteps of the police officer's receding to their car. As the engine roared into life a sudden wave of dizziness passed over her, causing her to fall against the wooden cabinet. Grazing her hand on the corner of the wooden top, tears streamed down her face. As she leaned against it a picture frame fell from the side, toppling to the floor, smashing the glass.

Bending down to retrieve the fallen frame Luke walked into the hall; disturbed by the noise. As he came to stand over her she turned the frame over in her hand, bits of broken glass falling to the floor as she did. The picture beneath was of her mother and father before he had been killed. More tears fell as the thought crossed her mind. They were both taken away from her, snatched away by an enemy, that to her still had no name.

Her father was a soldier fighting for his country, he had been given leave and was coming home. He had returned home safely and Maia even stayed home from school to be the first to great him when he got off the bus. She had watched him jump off the bus, all smiles and happiness. She had ran up to hug him. But as she got to him his expression had changed from loving father to complete terror. And when she reached up to hug him, instead he pushed her down. The last words he said to her as he fell to his knees were "Run" his voice strained and cracking. And then without a seconds warning his body toppled farwards, landing flat on the path.

A sudden realisation hit her at that moment, as she saw a long silver dagger sticking out of her furthers back. It was a fancy looking blade, waving with an inscription carved in the middle. It's hilt was moulded in to the shape of a dragon. It's wings stretched out at the bace of the blade, and it's tail wrapped around an ivory handle. And in one of the turns of its tail a blue gem was set. She could remember the mixture of fear, pain and hate swirling around in her heart, as she fell to the ground, tears streaming.

But now she was crying for her mothers death as well. Maia snapped back in to reality when she felt a gentile hand resting on her shoulder. It was Luke. His pale, slim hands held tightly on to her as he pulled her into his chest. It wasn't as warm as you would expect it to be; but no one in her family was ever very warm. But it was very comforting being held against his toned chest, the thin material of his shirt not hiding his muscle very well. His shoulder length, wavy, black hair brushed against her forehead as he held her to his chest, rubbing her back gently trying to stop her tears.

"It ok sweety, I'm here, it's all going to be ok."

Luke had always been there for Maia, a shoulder to cry on whenever she needed it. She had been her friend as long as she could remember. Through all of the bad times. When her dad had died, and when she was drifting from care home to care home, he had found her wandering around alone, helpless and broken. He took her back with him, taking care of her until her mum was well enough to look after her again. He was like a brother to her, and she knew that he would be there for her this time as well.

But the only thing that puzzled her about him was the fact that his appearance never changed, he never seemed to age at all.
