Leaning back in the leather car seat, my mind bounces all over the place, causing my stomach to swirl. I attempt to clear my brain, hoping that the car sickness goes away.
"How far away is this thing, anyway?" I ask, voice wavering slightly. My light yellow drawstring backpack leans against my leg, making me shift uncomfortably. It falls to the floor with a soft thud.
"I told you, Mel. It's, like, not that far. Only a couple more hours!" Hope exclaims merrily, her pale hands gripping the wheel.
Groaning, my stomach heaves, and bile rises in my throat. Adam looks back at me, his eyes wide with concern. My stomach flips once more, but I put a wavering smile on my face to show him that I'm okay. Clutching my stomach, I lay down across the back seats.
A headache pulses in the back of my mind and we hit a large bump in the road, causing me to moan softly. Closing my eyes, my thoughts begin to wander, bringing me some much needed peace.
