Sneakers crushing fallen leaves, I try to look at everything as we pass it, exotic flowers and brightly colored birds flitting through the sky. I can feel Adam's presence beside me and try to contain my excitement at the thrill of being alone together, us holding hands, maybe even kissing under the stars.A shiver of adrenaline runs through me and I recall my hands gripping his strong arms as he prevented me from falling into the gravel road. Hope is dashing faster and faster ahead of us and I start to panic as she flickers between the trees.
My ankle brushes a small bush and I squeal, jumping into the air slightly. Without warning, Adam grabs my hand. I can feel the heat rising up my neck and quickly reaching my cheeks, but I don't let go.
We dash faster into the forbidden woodlands, the sky line growing darker and our hopes growing higher.
"Hope! What the hell are you doing?! Stop running so quickly!" I wheeze, stumbling over a tree root in the middle of our seemingly invisible path.
"Yeah, isn't there a specific place where we're supposed to be going?!" Adam breathlessly hollers to thin air, seeing as Hope has disappeared. He squeezes my hand as he jumps over a large boulder, me tripping over the sharp edges sticking out of it.
"Adam, we need to catch up with her, she's the only one who knows what she's doing." My heart beats wildly in my chest and a stitch begins to form in my side. If you couldn't already tell, I'm not exactly the most athletic.
"HOPE!" Adam screams, his voice echoing through the trees. The sound of leaves being crushed beneath us is starting to give me anxiety and I pick up the pase, noting the rapidly darkening sky and the harsh wind that has suddenly started.
Where the hell could she have gone?
