"I am Duncan MacLeod, born four hundred years ago in the Highlands of Scotland. I am Immortal and I am not alone. For centuries we've waited for the time of the Gathering, when the stroke of a sword and a fall of a head will release the power of the Quickening. In the end, there can be only one."

⇜ About Highlander

Highlander: The Series is about Immortals. They look like us, they try to live normal lives, but after the first time they are killed, they cannot die. The only way to permanently kill an Immortal is to remove their head from their body.

They battle each other in what they call The Game, where they attempt to take their opponent's head with swords and gain their Quickening. In the end there can be only one, and they will gain the prize. Not that any of them know what the prize will be.

Some are good guys and some are definitely very much bad guys.

Unlike in the the original Highlander movie, Immortals can appear to die if the wounds are serious enough, however, they revive as these wounds heal.

This is Duncan MacLeod of the clan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) aka Mac, and he is the Highlander of the title. He's what you might call a bit of a boy scout. He likes to see the best in people and takes lost Immortals under his wing when necessary. However, he is also deadly with a sword and will take an enemy's head when circumstances call for it.

This is Richie Ryan (Stan Kirsch), foster kid, unsuccessful burglar and one of Mac's projects. When he broke into Mac's antique store at the age of 17 he was in for a shock when he saw an Immortal battle. Mac took him in, straightened him out, and looked after him. It was revealed he was Immortal when he was shot and killed in a mugging 2 years later.

Richie was Mac's pupil and almost constant shadow until Mac had what is called a Dark Quickening. The Highlander lost his mind for a while and tried to kill Richie, which strained their relationship. Richie went off the deep end for a little while after the betrayal, but eventually they made up.

This story takes place some time after the Dark Quickening, but before the end of season 5, which was a travesty against every Highlander fan.
