Piper's P.O.V
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The sound of my fast footsteps filled the air . They were coming.
I made a sharp turn on the corner of the block I was walking on in hope that the girls would lose track of me. With every second passing, I pushed myself to walk faster and faster. I was fresh meat . Everyone wants to pick on fresh meat. With that, I heard the sound of a couple more footprints.
Shit.
My breaths became less frequent as my legs started to give out. I really need to get in shape. I closed my eyes in hope that I could restart my life. In hope that I could be the glue to my old family and keep them together. In hope that I could not be an unwanted, untalented and ugly child.
Maybe I should add stupid to that list.
My eyes popped open to the sound of ripping. I looked down to see my beloved and my only sweater caught on the fence of an old house. The red fabric had a small rip that was forming and was only held together by a tiny piece of the sweater. I tugged at the fabric hoping that today would be my lucky day and that I would be able to escape in just a few seconds and not be caught by Valerie and her little minions. Unfortunately, my hands were too slippery from the rain that was introduced to the sky about five minutes ago. My vision became blurry as I saw two figures appear on both sides of me.
Valerie and I were never on the right foot per say. When I was first transferred to this school zone and new school, I wasn't the happiest of the bunch. In fact, I was actually very upset and had quite the bit of attitude. Who can blame me? All the anger I kept pent up inside, was released to everyone who came in a mile of me. I couldn't control my feelings and in return , everyone around me suffered.
I remember meeting Valerie like it was yesterday. It was the second day of school and, it was lunchtime. I was socially awkward and, I opted for the lovely bathroom. It was halfway through the lunch period and, I heard the cheap bathroom door squeak open.
I leaned on the old, rusty bathroom sink as I splashed water onto my sleep deprived face. Dark, black circles formed under my eyes from the many sleepless nights I have been experiencing. I couldn't take it. I knew I was going to crack any second now.
"Hi"
The small voice belonged to a girl who was taller than me. She sported a pair of skinny jeans and a t-shirt with a kitten in sunglasses on it with a pair of black flats. Her long brown flowing hair with streaks of dirty blonde sat near her armpit. She offered me a small smile that revealed her overbite. Not even her welcoming smile could cheer me up. I gave a cold, hard stare to her before I turned away and faced the mirror. I saw the quick pang of hurt flash her face as I pretended to be looking at my reflection.
" Your the new girl,right? I'm Valerie"
Silence filled the air . My brain told me to introduce myself but, my heart was too broken to let another person to my life. Although our brains might control our whole entire body, I learned that the heart also has a large role in that as well. I took a deep breath after I saw a frown appear on Valerie's face.
" I should've known. The entire grade has been talking all sorts of things about you . About how you were weird or about how you were crazy in the head. Well, have fun being friendless and -"
Before she could finish her sentence, ,my anger took the best of me. I slowly turned around as my face turned red.
"I haven't even said one word to you and your going to judge me? How would you feel if I judged you? What if I said I don't like you because you look like a snobby Barbie doll wanna-be?". I knew I was getting angry over spilt milk but, my anger had to be released somehow. My fist began to ball up and I dug my long nails into my soft skin. The deeper they went, the more I calmed down. It was too late for that. Valerie turned bright red from either embarrassment or, anger. She took a few steps towards me as I tried to step back. Unfortunately, my back was already pressed towards the dirty sink . Valerie stood five centimeters away from my face and she raised my hands to my chest. She grabbed a fistful of my purple tee and pulled me even closer to her. I tripped over my two feet which caused me to appear even shorter than Valerie as I hung from her grip.
