I walked down the stairs into the foyer. Halfway down, I noticed Riley and Dakota making breakfast in the kitchen. They were grinning from ear to ear.

They were happy.

Dakota was diligently mixing the pancake batter and Riley was posted at the tall stove.

I looked down and smirked. Riley stood on a wooden, miniature bench to reach the stove.

I still couldn't comprehend how Dakota and Riley were sisters.

Dakota was nearly five foot, eight.

Riley was barely five, two.

Dakota was all angular bones and lean body.

Riley was curvy and soft.

Riley said something to Dakota, whose jaw dropped incredulously. Riley wore a proud look, her back to Dakota and eyes fixated on the pancake she was currently flipping. Dakota's lips turned up into a devious smile as she silently padded to Riley.

She spoke and Riley shot up, not realising how close Dakota had come.

The older girl had two fingerfuls of pancake batter waiting and immediately smeared it across Riley's face.

Riley glared at a chortling Dakota. I gripped the camera from around my neck and pointed.

Riley pulled her sister closer and wiped her face across the taller girl's cheek.

The tables had turned, now Riley was laughing at Dakota, who looked like a deer caught in headlights.

The camera clicked and they both turned to me.

"Good morning," Riley said cheekily, the grin still etched onto her face and the laughter alive in her eyes.

"Good morning Riles," I laughed, "you look ready for the dress fitting, Dakota."

Riley laughed, "She started it, I just finished it."

Dakota rolled her eyes, "Hurry up slowpoke, Hailee is already dressed."

She wiped the batter off of her face with disgust, "I'm gonna take a shower, there's juice in the fridge and coffee in the pot, Hailee, make yourself at home."

I smiled appreciatively as she strode past me, up the stairs.

"You look gorgeous this morning," I teased.

Her thick, dark hair was in a messy bun and there was still some pancake batter on her button nose. I walked closer to her pointing at her nose, "You're still wearing my breakfast."

Her eyes widened as her hands flew up to cover her face, "What! Where?"

"Relax Riles, it's just me," I smiled unconsciously as I took my thumb and gently wiped her nose, "there, all clean."

We were closer now and I don't know when our voices had dropped to a whisper.

"Thanks," she looked up at me. She was nearly the same height as me now, the bench making a considerable change. Usually, the top of her head reached right below my chin, but now we stood nearly eye to eye.

We were inches apart, and, if I was seeing correctly, her eyes had darkened to a near black color.

I had goosebumps.

What the fuck.

"You're welcome," I cleared my throat, stepping back and breaking us out of whatever trance we were in, "uh, where are the glasses?"

She shook her head slightly, coming back to reality.

She pointed to the cupboard above me, not speaking. I stretched up to open it, my tank top rising slightly under my flannel to expose my belly button piercing.
