Hailee's hair stood straight with the electric atmosphere of the club, she was unaware if it was the pulsing lights or the brunette clinging to her arm that had her spellbound.
"NOW THIS IS WHAT A VACATION IS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE!" Sam hollered over the booming speakers, seeming to be already inebriated, despite her current, albeit temporary, sobriety.
'Her friends had to be rich,' Hailee mused, entering the large sitting area they had reserved.
The futuristic glass tables stood on chrome legs and held neon shots, emphasized by the LED lights above. White, leather couches held well-dressed young adults holding tall cocktails and strong drinks.
"Hey Dax," Dakota hugged a lanky boy.
He had the aura of a heartthrob, complete with a dazzling smile and subtle tan. Not a single, golden hair was out of place.
"About time you guys made it," he beamed, "wait, is that Riley?"
She bashfully waved, "Hey Dax."
He engulfed her in a massive hug, his long arms drowning her small frame.
Dakota introduced the girls. Sam and Dax immediately hit it off.
Hailee rolled her eyes in an exaggerated motion at the heartbreaker, who already had Dax wrapped around her well-manicured finger.
"I'm gonna get a drink," Hailee declared, walking to the bar.
"Scotch, neat please."
"Make that two," the pretty girl sitting to her left interjected.
She ogled Hailee. Hailee knew that this stranger wanted to talk to her, maybe even more, but Riley was the only one on her mind. That was the whole reason she came, right?
"I'm Jess."
"Hailee."
She didn't know why she was being this way, dry, curt. This girl was stunning, she should have been seizing the opportunity, it was practically begging to be taken.
But she didn't want to, she was pining over a girl that she shouldn't be even thinking about. A girl she would inevitably hurt.
She shook some sense into herself, paying the bartender for them both and spinning to face the girl.
Jess, was it?
Hailee looked her up and down. She was attractive, undoubtedly, she had chocolate skin and perfect curls. Her eyes were dark, nearly black, and her hips were full, melting into athletic legs.
She was no Riley, but she was sexy, and Hailee could work with that.
Hailee looked provocatively at her, "You here with someone, Jess?"
"I'm hoping it'd be you," Jess picked up her own drink, sipping and wincing.
Hailee chuckled, "Don't drink scotch a lot, do you?"
"Not really," she confessed, "I just wanted an excuse to talk to you."
Gotta admire the candor.
Hailee downed the rest of her scotch, needing the alcohol to dull her senses and get her mind off of the other brunette, "You wanna dance?"
"I thought you'd never ask."
Hailee walked to the dance floor with the girl, trying to ignore the fact that she just wasted a perfectly good glass of scotch.
