Chapter 4. Savannah isn't just a Desert

"So what do you want to see first?" Dad asked.

I grinned excitedly, bouncing up and down on my toes. I saw Blade smile at me from the corner of my eyes and I blushed.

"What about the-" I was interrupted by dad's phone ringing. He picked it up and I turned to grab ahold of Blade's arm, shaking it eagerly.

"I'm so happy!" I told him, "I can't wait! I've always wanted to visit Rome!"

He grinned and gently pried my hands off of him. He kept one hand in mine though.

"Calm down, Rory!" He laughed. "It's only Rome!"

"Only Rome?!" I repeated in disbelief, "You can't be serious! Rome was one of the greatest empires of all time! Think of all the things that came out of it! Of the-"

"Okay! Okay!" He laughed. "I get it! I prefer Greece myself though."

"Oh of course! Me too, but you can't help but admire the Romans!" I told him.

"That was our guide through the Colosseum." Dad said, putting away his phone. "There has been some last minute changes and I have to go straighten them out. You guys go and have fun!"

"I'll come with you." Mom announced.

"No, go have fun, honey." Dad argued.

"How am I supposed to have fun when we both know I'll be the third wheel with these two?!" Mom exclaimed, motioning in between me and Blade. "I would rather not listen to them flirt without you to distract me! Gag!"

I flushed red, but Blade only laughed.

"I don't know what you are talking about." I mumbled.

"Oh you don't, do you? You sure knew what I was talking about when I was helping you back in Texas! After all you were gushing on about how-"

"Mom!" I exclaimed, quickly cutting her off. "I think it's time for you to go!"

She smirked and turned to dad. "Now, lets go dear!"

I was sure my face was bright red as they left, leaving me and Blade alone. I went to run my hands through my hair, but soon realized my hand was still in his.

Heat instantly ran through my body and I blushed redder. I quickly found an excuse to let go of his hand while we walked down the busy marketplace.

The whole morning, we ran from place to place, looking at everything. It was busy and crowded, but all the bright colors and gorgeous architecture distracted me.

We stopped for lunch at a cute, little diner next to a garden. The scents of foreign flowers and foods kept me distracted until we were on our way again.

We had been looking around at all the architecture for a while when a deep, unfamiliar, and British voice spoke from behind me: "Wow. I knew Rome had lots of pretty girls, but you're gorgeous!"

I spun around to see a blond guy in his mid-20s smiling at me. He was wearing sunglasses so I couldn't see his eyes. His face made him look like a nice guy, but something about him seems... well, just mysterious. But I like mysterious. It just comes naturally when you're a treasure hunter.

I shyly smiled and said "Thanks" as I looked at the ground.

Blade had come to my side when he realized I had stopped. "And who are you?" he asked.

"The name is Shaw. And my sister Savannah should be around here somewhere," he stated, looking around. "And what are your names?"

"Blade," he spoke up.
