Saje.
"TO BE THE GREATEST in life, there are things you have to achieve."
English Literature.
My favorite class of the day. Professor was giving his end of the day life advice speech, he believed it gave us courage to not give up and fail, but keep striving to do better.
Class ended rather quickly and I took my time leaving the room. I followed the flow of students out to the parking lot. Pulling out my key, I unlocked the door to my red old beetle. I struggle opening the door with my books in hand.
"Let me help you."
I look down at the multiple rings on his hand, I smile knowing who it is. I mumble a thank you and slide into my car. He hands me my books and I sit them in the passenger seat.
"Do you have anything planned for the weekend?" His blue eyes stare at me for response and I nod. "Connie is sick and needs me to fill in for her."
"The whole weekend? Come on Saje, it's only a couple drinks." He chuckles leaning into my window, I get butterflies in my stomach at the sound of his accent.
"Harry, you know my car isn't the best so let's not lean on." I arch my right eyebrow up at him and he backs off in surrender.
"I'm sorry but just call me when you're not busy? I'll be busy doing nothing." He starts backing up as I put my keys in ignition and start my car. "I gotcha."
I tap my thumb against the steering wheel, mimicking the beat of the song from the radio. I was becoming impatient in this traffic, I was going to be late for this interview. I pull my phone out my jacket and text Connie that I'll be a couple minutes late.
Connie was my best friend. We've been close since high school. We shared an apartment together after our sophomore year. Recently Connie got really sick and hasn't been attending class for that reason but she had an assignment due by next Monday. The only way she could do it is if I did it for her.
Twenty minutes later, I frantically close my car door with my belongings in hand. I jog to the elevator and click the button. The elevator dings and opens up, I walk in and press the 5. I gnaw at my nails in nervousness at the thought of actually speaking to Mr. Mendes. I heard he was intimidated and I've seen how intimidating he looked in magazines or television. I walk off the elevator and head towards my apartment door. I unlock it and push open the door, stepping in.
"Saje, you're almost thirty minutes late. What happened?" Connie asks sitting up against the couch she had made her bed for being sick.
"If you looked at your phone you would know. Let me change my jacket and I'll be on my way." I take my shoes off at the door and saunter to my bedroom. I drop my books on my bed and search my closet for another jacket. After putting on the warm jacket, I leave the room and meet Connie again.
"Okay all the questions are in here. Be sure you hold the recorder to where I can hear everything you're asking and him answering." Connie reminds me for the tenth time this week, I nod grabbing the notebook and recorder.
"What questions are in here?"
"Just go girl." She laughs and nod again, walking out the building.
