It was nine in the morning and the day was almost over for Kevin Lee.
"I need coffee," he thought. Kevin hadn't left the office since yesterday. He'd discovered a pesky bug in his latest updates that begged his attention.
Co-workers wrinkled their nose as he passed by their cubicles, the stench of oil and sweat covering him from head to toe.
But their reaction didn't matter to him. Unlike the pretty people who were here to fulfill the necessary headcount, Kevin had real work to do. He was best friends with the CEO and worked closely to monitor the back end of all the softwares the company created.
So it didn't bother him that he got a few bewildered looks here and there. He was doing what he loved and enjoying it to the maximum.
Until something hit him square in the face.
"Uh," he spluttered, his head bouncing in vertigo as he took a step backward. "Sorry?"
He opened his eyes to see a tall, brown sugar colored woman in a smooth olive dress. Shaking her head, she gave him a wry smile and swiftly kept walking.
Kevin couldn't take his eyes off her as she disappeared down the hall.
She was hot. And cute, in the three seconds he saw her face.
He flipped out his phone and looked at the company's schedule for the day.
There were at least 20 visitors at the office. He could barely tell which names were male and female, let alone the one belonging to her.
He let out a sigh. When did trying to secure a date become a mission equivalent to espionage?
All of this was way too exhausting for Kevin. He needed his coffee, dammit.
But he was curious.
And curiosity was a drug he couldn't resist.
He went straight to Stacy who could hardly stand him.
"Stacy."
He stood there for a full minute before she looked up from her screen.
"What?"
Should he be honest? He picked the path less traveled.
"There's a client who's having computer issues. She passed me in the hall but I couldn't catch her name. She's wearing an olive green dress, black hair..."
"Jennifer Law." She glared at him. "Anything else?"
"Nope. Thanks!" He laughed to himself on the way up to his floor. That was easy!
She was in a meeting until 11 AM in a conference room to his right. Should he linger with his phone out by the door? Or strategically leave the room just as her meeting was done?
He couldn't choose. It made him anxious. An hour passed by as he paced around his office, barely functioning on two hours of sleep. The quest for coffee had been long forgotten.
His mission now was to secure a date.
There was no way he could make up his mind. So he decided to lurk in the next room and pretend like he was working.
Then he accidentally ran into her a second time in the hallway.
He was so nervous he dropped his phone.
"Didn't I see you five minute ago?" She stooped down and and handed him his cracked phone. "We're already becoming friends," she said.
"We are! Do you want to go for coffee today?"
There were three seconds of silence.
"Maybe around the corner?" he added.
She looked at him with a blank expression.
Then her facial muscles began moving again.
"Sure. Just text me at 6478881010. Gotta go!"
He had never been so glad to be good with numbers.
