Chapter Twenty-Five

Bailey was setting in the grass outside. Her legs were crossed and she was picking at the plants around her. She had avoided the others, feeling as if human contact would ruin her mood. She was watching the sun set over the hill, waiting for the last light to die out and the others to retire to their beds. To her surprise, Ellie wandered towards her and sat beside her. Ellie gave her a sideways glance, and for the first time in sixteen years, a moment between them was awkward.

"The sunset is nice." Ellie said, plucking at a piece of grass.

"Yeah." Bailey replied, hugging herself.

"Do you know what day it is?" Ellie asked, looking up at Bailey, taking her by surprise. Slowly, Bailey shook her head. "It's July sixteenth."

Bailey pondered the date silently, and then it dawned on her. "It's Beth's birthday." Bailey whispered silently. "I nearly forgot." She added, feeling guilty.

"I did, too." Ellie added, turning to her friend.

"Do you think she'd be mad at us?" Bailey asked, inhaling and catching the faint scent of Draco.

"No." Ellie responded with a slight shake of her head. "She'd be angry we didn't bring her on our little adventure."

Bailey laughed almost silently and turned to Ellie. The awkwardness melted away as Ellie grinned at her friend and laughed as well. Their laughter filled the air and for a minute, they were launched back in time before either knew of the magical world; of a time when they were young and innocent.

"I feel like we need to do something." Ellie said suddenly; they were lying on their backs, staring at the fading sky.

"Like what?" Bailey asked curiously.

"We need to Americanize this place." Ellie said proudly.

"I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that's frowned upon here." Bailey remarked with a chuckle. "You know, the whole Revolution and what-not." She added with a grin.

Ellie rolled her eyes, prodding her friend's side playfully. "I mean, we need to do something fun, not illegal."

"Too many times our definition of fun has become illegal." Bailey laughed, remembering their several brushes with the authorities back home.

"Deputy Liam loves us." Ellie reminded Bailey.

"That's just because we made his job interesting." Bailey added which Ellie agreed to. "But, seriously, what do you want to do?"

"Get me a radio, a bonfire and a stick and you'll find out." Ellie said with a mischievous smile.

"Deal." Bailey remarked and stood.

While she embarked on the trip to find Ellie's necessities, Ellie made her way inside and found Mrs. Weasley setting on a couch in the living room, talking to Hermione about Fleur's pregnancy. Hermione seemed thankful when the other teen arrived and asked to speak to Mrs. Weasley alone.

"How can I help you?" Mrs. Weasley asked kindly once Hermione had left.

"Can you keep everyone inside for about an hour?" Ellie asked. Mrs. Weasley arched an eyebrow but didn't question. "And can you shut the blind?"

"What're you up to?" Mrs. Weasley asked standing and flicking her wand. The blinds throughout the house shut and sealed immediately. There were confused shouts throughout the house.

"Bailey and I have a surprise." Ellie said proudly.

"Well, this I'm excited to see." Mrs. Weasley responded and made her way towards the stairs to tell the others to meet in the living room and threatened them with bodily harm if they attempted to peak outside.
