Together At Last

The next month of planning and preparation, went to waste on the real expedition. The Female Titan destroyed the whole right flank, wiped out Squad Levi, and almost got Eren. That's when my hope for humanity really did get wiped on someone's shirt. This is it. We're done. That's when I killed myself. That's when I dragged the sword across my neck, letting the warm blood flow, soaking my clothes, and everything went black.

When I opened my eyes again, I was in a wide meadow. There was a tree in the distance, on a lonely hill. The sunset like a backdrop. I squinted my eyes, and saw a figure, sitting down, and waving to me. Confused and curious, I walked forward, to the hill. Once I saw who it was, I froze.

"Marco?" I whispered, without thinking.

"Jean!" Marco's voice yelled.

Tears of joy stung my eyes, and I ran as fast as I could to him. "Marco!" I

practically jumped him, hugging him as tight as I could, hoping it was real.

Marco embraced me, and hugged me back. "I missed you, Marco..." I whispered, crying even more.

"I missed you, too, Jean." Marco said, kissing my forehead. My face burned, and I looked up at his smiling face.

"This is real, right?" I asked, hopefully, "You and I are really here, together, finally?"

"We're in heaven now, Jean, together." He closed his eyes, leaning his forehead on mine, rubbing our noses together, like an Eskimo kiss.

"What about the others? Are they here, too?"

"Yeah, everyone's here, we'll go see them later, okay?" He asked, smiling with his perfect freckles and brown eyes.

"Okay." I whispered, smiling like an idiot.

Marco and I sat on the hill, watching as the last rays of sunlight drained from the meadow. I leaned on him, my head on his shoulder, and his arm draped around me. This was the most perfect moment I could ever imagine. "I love you, Marco Bodt."

"I love you even more, Jean Kirschtein."
