max mayfield moves to hawkins, indiana - with her mother, stepfather and stepbrother - as the broken family want a fresh start. she absolutely despises it, and wishes they never left california.
when she goes to school, max meets a variety of different kids, who are all caught up in serious, unbelievable stuff.
