Among the poppies in the darkening sky
My heart dares to take a journey behind
The scenes below
Where the poppies grow
I seem to wander around
Touching the delicate petals deep in the shadow
I begin to feel an emotion grow
It isn't a feeling I've felt before
But one I need to learn
It is the heart of a soldier I feel through my soul
The bravery and courage showing me a glimpse
Of the shadows seen many years ago
Larks above still sing a song
To remember the boys that pulled and won
The battle that cost so much in this world
Ill never forget them, or so my soul shall be burned
The little red symbol stays in my mind
As the battles from the past take flight through my night
One day, i strive to be
Someone to look up too, as those before me.
A/N
So every year, our school has a contest with a couple different category. Last year i got first place within the school but i didn't move farther than that. I love writing poems and it gives me a thrill to be able to try and write something that will be meaningful to veterans. This year i hope to move on farther in the poem category, and i will also attempt in he drawings (though i dont think ill get anywhere, there a lot of amazing artists in my school)
