Among the poppies in the darkening sky

My heart begins to wander in the stories behind

The hills along where dust blows

Where the once was a war, not so long ago

I still see it

I see the bravery, I see sky gray skies

I see the turmoil below where many bodies lie

In the trenches, a song still plays along

That raised their hopes, and brought them home

I still feel it

Can you feel the beats, of the hearts below

The courage, and bravery that fought the coward foe

The shouts of pain, and of joy

The final breath, with whispers of a life enjoyed

I still hear it

I hear little boys, playing in the sand

And little girls waiting to hold their Daddys hand

They will never forget, so why should we

Long live the people who fought in the air, land and sea

I still remember it

I remember, the larks still singing the song

To remember the boys that pulled and won

The battle that cost so much in the world

I'll never forget them, or so my soul shall be burned

I still think of it

There's a little poppy at my feet

I wonder if it was fate that made us meet

Too far from the others to make a stance

But I am here to give it a chance

I still pray for it

I'll take it home, and mend its heart

Because it's a part of the world that someone forgot

Is it a lost soldier that i now hold in my hands

Or just another flower that had no plans

I still love it

Nevertheless, It was a symbol

A symbol of someone who gave up their life

For someone they saw, and gave a chance to explore

The wonders of the world, before they could see no more

I still know it

I touch the delicate petals now in the sun

And think of the soul to which it belongs

I won't let it slip from memory again

Or fall away, just like the rain

I still follow it

The sun shines through the little window by the door

And makes a shadow glance onto the floor

Its not only the flower, but a soldier I see

And now I know, that another life has been freed

One day I'll become a poppy in the earth

Because that there is so much that life is worth

A poppy again traces into my mind

This time, I won't leave anyone behind

I still see it
