Look around, familiarise yourself with the surrounds, find the patches of edible plants and trees and get to work on prepping your piece of realestate. Dig a fire pit, collect some wood and if you got there by car hide it! You don't want someone you don't want poking around. Use it for shelter and storage in sketchy situations.
Dig a latrine perhaps, or if you are near a river, you may just go in the river. Hey, it's the apocalypse, no ones gonna judge you.
If possible, start working on a fence by cutting down long and thin trees and using them as posts for a fence. Make it tall enough so zombies or humans can't get over and make sure to have more than one gate.
