Julia's POV
It was time for our usual Thanksgiving dinner with the McDonoughs and I was currently in my room, putting on the ugly outfit that my mother had chosen for me.
I put on the ugly, red, plaid dress, then I put on some ugly white knee socks, and slipped on the ugly black shoes, which kind of resembled school shoes if you went to one of those exclusive private schools that require you to have uniforms, which I do go to.
Considering that I'm already a legal adult, I should really have some say in what I can wear, but unfortunately, i don't.
My mother is one of those perfectionists. She hates it when I dress casually. A t-shirt, some jeans, and sneakers could bring tears to her eyes, and I don't mean the good kind of tears.
I tied my hair into a half-ponytail and put on a black hair bow, which is another requirement of my mother's.
I exited my room and bumped into my seventeen year old brother in the hallway. His polo shirt was tucked into his dress pants, but lucky for him he was actually allowed to wear sneakers.
"I hate these clothes," he groaned.
"At least you're not the one in the dress and knee socks."
"James! Julia! The McDonoughs are here," our mom called from downstairs. We groaned simultaneously, then started making our way down the many steps leading to the living room.
We did the usual greeting and started gathering around the dinner table.
Toby and Riley McDonough were now in deep conversation with James, and I was all alone with my mom and Mrs. McDonough.
"My apologies Linda. I told them to wear something a little more formal but they didn't listen," Joan said to my mother, who was currently cringing at Riley's and Toby's choice of clothing. It wasn't that bad. They actually looked really good in their leather jackets, but it was no suit and tie.
"It's fine, Joan," my mother replied and only I could hear the annoyance in her voice.
I decided to just join the boys in their conversation.
"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" I asked.
"We're talking about their lost brother," James replied and I rolled my eyes.
"Come on guys, you know as well as I do that he isn't coming back."
"There's a possibility," Riley replied as he took a bite from an apple that he found laying around in the kitchen.
"Kids, dinner is ready," my mom said and we started eating our Thanksgiving dinner.
After the dinner and a couple hours of adult talk, since my mom believes that everyone should know about politics and everything that's going around in the world and stuff like that, it was finally time for the McDonoughs to leave and for James and I to go to bed.
I went inside my room and took a quick shower. Then I changed into a white night gown, because my mom requires me to wear dresses 24/7, which really sucks.
I combed the tangles out of my dark brown hair and removed the makeup that I had applied earlier.
"Goodnight, Julia," my mom said from the doorway and I just gave her a small smile in reply.
I never went to sleep right away so I just took a seat on the, rather large, ledge of my bedroom window.
I just stared at the stars, but kept my eyes on my favorite one, the second from the right.
It wasn't long before I started dozing off and before I knew it I was fast asleep.
~
After what felt like hours, I woke up to a twig snapping. Wait. What? Why was there a twig in my room? And I could've sworn I locked my door before I fell asleep.
I opened my eyes and I was completely shocked that I was lying down in the middle of a clearing in some random forest.
How on earth did I get here? Was I kidnapped?
I stood up and started looking at the trees that surrounded me. There must have been animals living in those trees, preying on me.
I looked around a little longer until my eyes landed on a bright colored object lying on the ground.
I approached it slowly and then picked it up.
It looked like some sort of green hat with a red feather attached to it. It was unlike any hat I have ever seen before.
Suddenly, I heard another twig snap and then another as I felt the fear slowly overcoming me. I was about ready to embrace my death, when something jumped out of a nearby bush and almost gave me a heart attack.
After a few seconds, I realized that it wasn't a something it was a someone.
He had blonde hair and the bluest eyes I had ever seen in my entire lifetime. They were a deep ocean blue, completely different from my icy ones. He was wearing torn clothing that made it kind of obvious that he had been here for a while.
"Who are you?" I asked in a shaky voice as I gripped the hat tightly in my hand.
"Give me back my hat!" he yelled, completely ignoring my question.
I didn't give him his hat back. I needed answers and I was scared that if I gave it back, he would just leave me in this seemingly massive forest to fend for myself.
"Who are you?" I repeated my question.
"My name is Connor," he replied.
"Last name?"
"I don't have one," he said and I was a bit puzzled.
"What do you mean you don't have one. You have parents, right?" I asked, but he shook his head and I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "Don't tell me you just suddenly appeared out of nowhere."
"Well, sometimes it feels like that," he said,as he examined his fingernails, which were really dirty, but hey, it was a forest. I don't suppose there was any soap for miles.
"But that isn't possible. It's completely illogical." Great, I was starting to sound like my mother.
"How old are you?" I asked and he shrugged.
"When is your birthday?"
"I don't know," he replied.
"How old do you think you are?" I asked. How could this guy not know anything about himself?
"I don't know. It doesn't matter anyway. Everyone who lives here never ages. I guess you could say whoever lives here stays young forever, which makes them immortal," he replied, sending me a smile.
"I don't understand. Where am I?"
"All I can say is that you're no longer in Orlando."
