Ruby POV

"Sapphire?"
She kept staring across the diner
"Sapphire, You okay?" I put my hand on hers. "Oh! Um" she pulled her hand away. " Oh I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking" I said. "No, I understand." She never answered my question. " Ruby, Activate your inner gay, talk to her" Amethyst said whispering loudly. Sapphire chuckled. It was kind of cute. "So.." I said. "So..." she smiled. At least she was smiling. "How was practice, I
didn't really see."
"Oh uhm.. it was fine" I cringed when I said that, before I talked to her just fine , for some reason now, It was different. I kinda thought Amethyst would make it less, y'know, awkward. I gave her a few looks and looked away when she did. The waiter came around after a few turns of glances. "Lapis?!" Lapis, Lapis the damn waiter. "May I take your order." She said in a depressed tone. " Lapis, you're a waiter?"
"I'm paid by the hour so sure, I can talk"
Who is Lapis? Sapphire never mentioned her, I have only known her for 3 or 4 hours now..
"I almost got caught steeling a few days ago, so I decided to get a job where I get paid for talking to people and writing things down,"
Lapis took her note book out
"Now, what can I get ya?"
...
Our food came about 20 minutes later. Amethyst ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries on it.
Sapphire and I ordered milkshakes.
Amethyst was eating her 'Heart Attack Burger' and Sapphire and I sipped from our drinks. Amethyst broke the silence. "Wow sure is the best diner in the world." She ate the last of her food. "Yeah I guess, it is" I said. " Sapphire is it okay?" I asked, she was still staring. "I'm, Fine" she said sounding kinda angery. "If there's anything I could do for  just tell me" That seemed to calm her down. She yawned. It was adorable, I admit but she still looked nervous. I wrapped my arm around her, she shivered a little bit then she got comfortable. "Ruby, your showing your gay" Sapphire didn't chuckle this time, she didn't even smile. "Sapphire how about we go on a walk?" She nodded. I handed Amethyst money to pay for the dinner. I walked Sapphire outside, my hand in hers she seemed more comfortable with me alone. She started trembling. "Here." I wrapped my jacket around her and she removed her hand from mine to hold the jacket "Thank you Ruby"
"What's on your mind, you seemed  really nervous at the table." I tear rolls down her face in a zigzagging motion. I wiped it off and we stopped and faced each other she gave me a big hug and held it as she talked. "The Diamonds, they're here, they saw me, I don't feel safe."
"Woah, Woah" I said. She started crying again, we broke up the hug, "Sapphire I promise to protect you, and if they get in our way I'll beat up up!" I smiled. She chuckled "There's my Laffy Sapphy!" I spun her around. She kept smiling "Oh so I'm Sapphy now?"
"Hey Lesbians, come on!" Amethyst yelled.
Sapphire leaned her head on my shoulder as I drove her home, "Ruby?"
"Yeah?"
"Will you spend the night, I'm kinda scared.."
"Of course." I said
I pulled in front of her apartment, "Do your parents mind?"
"Oh um, No they're,"
"I'm sorry Sapphire"
"No it's fine,"
We got out of the car and walked up a flight of stairs. She opened the apartment with her keys.
"You can wear some of my clothes if you want," she set out a large white tee and some black shorts. I changed and sat next to Sapphire on the couch, Sapphire was typing on her laptop.
"What's that?"
"Homework"
"It's the first day of school Sapphy,"
She shut the laptop.
"I was texting Pearl."
"Reaallly?" I said
She started playing with my curls.
"Sappphhyy"
"What Ruby?" She laughed. That was cute I said out loud on accident.
"Thanks"
"I didn't mean that" I said " Well I mean it was cute, I just didn't mean to say it out loud"
" Ruby just shut up" she fell back on lap. "Did you have fun? At the Dinner I mean."
"It was great,"
"Really?"
"Really."
She smiled, then I started playing with her hair. She was so beautiful, I just don't know if she's gay, I want her to be mine, girlfriend or not. If I ask her out and she's not she'll probably think I'm gross or creepy. I removed her from my lap and walked into the bathroom. I started crying, I tried being quiet, I didn't want to have to explain to Sapphire why I was crying.
"Ruby you okay in there?"
I wiped up my tears and opened the door, "I'm fine."I'm not
"Ruby were you crying?"
"No,"
"Okay then,It's late and a school night we should go to bed." I don't really have another bedroom so you could sleep with me, if you want."
"Yeah! Yeah that's cool"
It was a big bed, so we both laid on opposite sides.
"Sapphy?"
"Yes Ruby?"
" have you ever wondered if someone could ever love you?"
"That's random"
" Yeah,sorry."
"Stop apologizing Ruby."
"Sor- I mean okay."
She sat up. " I've loved someone before, They don't know if they probably never will"
"Who?" Please say Ruby, Please say Ruby.
"That's personal" she boops me on my nose. "Sapphy Pleaaase"
I gave her my best puppy eyes.
She looks at me laying down with my eyes clossed but still smiling she leans towards me.
