Chapter 1

I tried to open my eyes, squinting them.

                    White.

Everything in the room was white. What am I doing here?

I slowly examined everything in the room, there was nothing but a wall with a painting in front of me. I was trying to remember what exactly happened when a sudden pain in my arm brought my attention towards it. An IV tube was attached to my hand which was leading to a bottle hung above with a transparent liquid in it.

                    What happened to me?

Then it came, like a flash. A sudden pain coursed through my head...

"Get out of my house! you have no right to be here!"

"Dad? what did I do?"

"Go away ! You're not my daughter!" he said. Even though he tried his best to be serious, I couldn't help but notice the sadness in his voice.. afterall I'm his daughter and he's my father.

"Dad.. please tell me what I did and then ,I promise I'll leave ..." I said with my voice quivering and glassy eyes filled with tears threatening to fall.

He avoided looking into my eyes and went inside the house. He came back with a suitcase which came flying to my feet ready to abandon the house it stayed for a while now.

"Leave!" he said, regret evident in his tone which he tried hard not to show. I quivered visibly and took my suitcase. I've never seen him this angry , what happened to him?

No, this can't be happening again. It's been a while since I've got these sudden flashes in my head, an year to be exact. I was quite confident I wouldn't have them again after the therapy but today, it's proved to be wrong.

Mom, I'm sorry. I tried my best. Silent tears collected in my eyes when I got the face of my mom in my head. She was everything I could ask for and my safe haven since that incident. She tried her best to help me with it, with all she had. But now, I failed her.

A soft knock wobbled my thoughts and I raised my head to see who it was. It was a lady who seemed to be in her thirties. I glanced at her long white coat with a name plate on it, Dr. Regina Williams.

                    "Ms. Summers?"

I nodded my head but then a dull pain ached through my head and I clutched it trying to ease the pain.

"Relax. Don't try to think too much, Ms. Summers. Are you still feeling weak?" She said handing over a glass of water. I drank it quickly and instantly, my throat felt better.

"Yes, I'm better now. Can you tell me why I am here? " I asked slowly pleading her with my eyes.

"Temporary amnesia. You will get back your memories soon, don't worry child." She said smiling.

She then made her way towards the door and said, "Your mother is waiting outside for you, Ms. Summers. She'll be inside shortly."

I was left alone to linger with my thoughts in my head. I believed it when Dr. Regina said I'll get back my memories of why I'm here. All I could remember right now is me standing in the living room of my home. And then, I found myself in this white, empty room.

"Alicia?" I instantly recongnised the voice and the homely warmth it radiated.

"Mom." I said trying to hold my tears threatening to spill on recongnising the amazing lady standing before me with concern etched onto her face.

She sprinted fast taking a place before me and held my face in her small hands.

"Honey, I was so scared. Thank god you're alright." I smile sadly through her words.

Then everything came back to me. How I fainted in the living room as if my switch was turned off after having a sudden pain and flashes of memories through my head. My eyes widen at all this. B-but... I quickly recovered my calm features and put on a hopeful smile on my face.

"Mom, I didn't eat anything the previous day so I fainted. Not a big deal. There's nothing to be scared about."

Lying is better at this point of time.

She scrutinised my words seeing to be confused... Believe it. Believe it. Be-

"Promise me you'll never do that again. Otherwise I'll make sure to feed you myself." She said sternly.

"Yes, mother. I promise." I said quietly promising many other things she didn't know.

                    I promise I'll be okay.
