*Emberly's POV*
I bring the knife down and feel it impale flesh. The intruder releases another roar of agony. I hear the knife hit the floor and he rolls us so I'm trapped on my back. He strattles me, pinning my arms to my side with his knees. I start thrashing and screaming, clinching my eyes shut. Juliet must have hired someone to come and kill me. My fears are further confirmed when I feel a forearm press against my throat. I'm delirious with fear. The pressure continues until I'm gasping for air, unable to make a sound. Tears are starting to creep down my face. I feel someone wipe a tear away and I flinch at the touch. Someone is talking but I am too far gone to hear what they're saying. I open my eyes, my vision blurred with tears. The last thing I see before I lose consciousness is a dark haired figure leaning over me. My last thought is simple.

Andy I'm sorry. I love you.

When I wake up, I'm laying on the ground still. I look around, relieved to find that I'm still in my living room. A groan escapes my lips until I remember the intruder. I jerk upright, triggering my vertigo. Holding my head steady, I wait for the dizziness to pass.

"Emberly..." I hear the low whisper. I know that voice. My eyes find the source. Andy is laying on the floor beside me. His arm is cut to the bone and his hand has a hole through it. Both are bleeding profusely. I suddenly realize the intruder was actually the love of my life. I tried to kill Andy. Nausea rises in my stomach.

"ANDY! OH MY GOD! OH FUCK!" I jump up ignoring the dizziness. I reach my purse and dig out my phone. I quickly call 911 and give them the info for our apartment. I hang up, grab a towel out of the kitchen, and drop to my knees by Andy.

"I wanted to surprise you. The lawyer discovered that the Anderson family paid off the judge and jury. My case got thrown out and all the charges were dropped. The entire family was arrested." He whimpers. I'm holding the towel on his arm to stop the bleeding.

"You definitely surprised me. I'm so sorry baby. I didn't know it was you. I've been on edge living by myself. I'm sorry." I'm sobbing. Andy takes his non injured arm, caressing the side of my face with his hand. His eyes start to droop. "No! Andrew stay with me. Listen to me! Stay awake!" I order him, tears flowing freely.

"I love you, Em." He whispers. He struggles to keep his eyes open as the color drains from his face. No. He can't die. I didn't mean to hurt him. After what feels like an eternity, the paramedics come through the door with a stretcher. They get Andy stabilized and I follow them in my Jeep to Tarper-Eden. In the car, I call Dr. Purdy. I tell him what happened and he agrees to meet me there. I sprint into the ER and run straight into him.

"Where is he? Did you know he was coming home?!" I scream, ignoring the looks I'm getting.

"They took him to surgery. He's going to be ok. I didn't know. I'm so sorry." Dr. Purdy pulls me in his arms and holds me while I sob. I finally manage to calm down. "Come on, I need to talk to you privately." Dr. Purdy leads me to a lounge area, closing the door behind us.

"I-is ever-rything o-ok?" I hiccup. He pulls me into a hug. When he releases me, he looks into my eyes. His hands rest on each of my biceps, holding me steady.

"I got your test results back. I was about to come see you when you called me about Andy." I nod, feeling my stomach tie itself in knots again.

"Ok." The anticipation is making me want to scream. "Are they bad?" I already know the answer.

"I'm sorry. We can talk about this when Andy is better and can be here." Dr. Purdy says.

"Tell me now. What were my results?" I growl.

"Because you missed your last three appointments, we didn't catch this sooner. Emberly, we found-." His pager cuts him off with its demanding beeping. I have to bite my tongue so I don't yell profanities at him as he checks the small black device. "There's an update on Andy. Come on." He pulls me towards the waiting room. We meet a slim doctor with curly red hair. She extends her hand to me and I shake it.

"Andrew coded on the table." I gasp. Andy died? "We were able to get him back. He has lost a significant amount of blood and had a few tendons severed in his right arm. Also, his hand was impaled. We're trying to fix all the damage but he may have some nerve damage or trouble moving certain fingers. I'll come get you when he's out of surgery." She gives me a gentle smile and leaves. Dr. Purdy's pager beeps again.

"Jinxx is going to come sit with you. I have to go. I'm sorry. I'll come check on you and Andy later." He hugs me and leaves. It isn't until after he's gone that I realize he never told me my results. Jinxx shows up a few minutes later and gives me a subdued smile. He silently sits beside me and I rest my head on his shoulder. Before I realize it, I'm asleep.

*Andy's POV*
I wake up in an unfamiliar room. There are tubes and wires connected to me and a steady beeping is filling the otherwise silent room. My head is pounding and my throat is parched. My right arm and hand and bandaged heavily. Memories start to flood back. I scared Emberly. I didn't mean to and I definitely wasn't expecting the knife attack that followed. I notice she isn't here. I sigh, laying my head back down. I'm not sure how much time has passed when there's a knock on the door. A sweet looking nurse comes in, followed by Jinxx carrying Emberly, who's unconscious.

"Emberly! What happened?" I ask frantically, the heart monitor going crazy. Jinxx shushes me.

"She's just asleep." He tells me, laying her on the couch to my right. "She passed out in the waiting room. I didn't want to wake her." We both look over when Emberly groans, stirring in her sleep. I smile at how beautiful she is. "How are you feeling, man?" He asks me, concerned.

"I'm ok. It hurts like hell, but I'm fine." Jinxx nods. Emberly is starting to wake up. I watch as her eyes flutter open delicately, almost like the wings of a butterfly. She sits up quickly, and her face becomes pained.

"Emberly? Are you ok?" Jinxx sits by her.

"Fucking vertigo." She grumbles. I chuckle and her eyes snap to my face. "Andy." She whispers.
I can only imagine what I look like to her. Pale, hair a mess, laying in a hospital bed, dressed in the sickly blue gown with wires and tubes attached to my chest and arms, and a nasal cannula in my nose. I smile encouragingly at her.

"I'm ok Em. I promise." I give her my signature grin and hold my left arm out to her. She comes over to me, and I gently pull her down so I'm able to kiss her. "I love you." I promise her. I feel her smile into my mouth.

"I love you." She smiles. Jinxx clears his throat. We look over at him. He gives us an awkward grin.

"I gotta get to work. My shift starts soon. Emberly, Dr. Purdy said he had something important to tell you. Did he ever find you?" I watch as Emberly's face clouds.

"He never got around to it." She says, chewing on her lip. Jinxx nods.

"I'll page him and send him by." He promises. She nods and he walks out the door. I can tell she's worried about something but I choose not to ask. Instead, I pull her onto the bed with me on my left side. She wraps her arms around me and almost immediate falls asleep. I stroke her hair absentmindedly, staring off into space.
