Chapter Seven
He Keeps Showing Up
"Why would you want to meet her?" I asked, an uneasy feeling settling in my gut. "I mean... We barely even know each other."
"I don't really know. Just felt like asking, I guess..." He said, not catching the eyeing I was doing to his whole body. Well, maybe he did, but he must have ignored it then.
"Sorry, I, umm... I have to go." I said, checking my phone to see the time. It was already around midnight, meaning I was going to have to get home early to go to work at the cafe in the morning. Sighing, I stood and made my way out the door, Brian trailing behind me.
"Look, can you just listen to me for a minute?" He asked.
Sighing, I stopped and turned around to face him. "I guess..."
"I know we just met and all, but I know what it's like to have a single parent. I mean, you look like you're doing amazing by yourself and I don't mean to intrude... I just..." He groaned before sitting down on the ground. "I'm sorry, Kat."
"You even remembered my name." I said and smiled down at him. The feeling in my stomach started to act up, but I ignored it and pressed my smile even harder onto my lips. "Alright, I forgive you, Moopy."
"That's good..." He said, smiling as he stood.
"Would you...like to maybe meet for lunch on Monday?" I asked, watching his face go hard and serious for a moment. "I mean, if you aren't busy or anything..."
"Of course," He smiled before leaning in and pecking me on the lips. "I don't what to hold a press conference this week anyway. Now I don't have to. It's a win-win situation, really."
"Alright," I snickered with his smiling face. "I really have to go, though. See you Monday?"
"I don't have your number, though..." He said, pouting his bottom lip.
I knew I didn't want to give him my number just yet, so I smiled a small grin at him and sighed. "If all goes well on Monday, then we'll talk numbers. Meet me at the cafe just outside of town and we'll see about lunch..." I winked before dashing over to my car.
Once inside, I turned the heat on low and drove the couple blocks back home. Pulling into my spot, I shut the car off and headed inside. I made my way up to my room and collapsed on my bed. Fighting with my dress, I finally pulled it off and threw it to the corner with my flats. Not bothering to do anything else, I pulled my comforter over my body and closed my eyes.
I ninja kicked myself out of my bed when I heard my phone alarm blast through my bedroom in the morning. Breathing heavily, I checked the time. I was probably going to be late to work, again. It was already ten past nine. That left me ten minutes to get ready and five to get to work.
"Ugh, I hate you!" I screeched at my phone before chucking it across the room. It instantly stopped ringing when it hit the wall, leaving a small dent where it collided.
I hopped out of bed and rushed toward the bathroom. Taking a cold shower, the water blasted me awake. It took me about five minutes total to get ready, but when I was done, I was ready to go. I, literally, ran out to my car and slammed the door behind me before starting it and speeding off down the road.
I was a mere thirty seconds late, but the boss managed to notice.
"Kat, you're late." He said, taking in my complexion.
