Daniel Seavey (yes really)
"Seavey?" There was a knock on my door.
"Yes?" I replied to the woman behind it. I got up and walked towards the door before opening it.
"Are you ready for your session?" I nodded and walked after her before closing the door behind me again. We had therapy sessions every morning before breakfast.
We walked into the white room, which was the place where the sessions would be held. It was a small white room, with a black chair and a black couch, and that was all there was in the room, it was built to 'calm' the patients down, but to be honest, it only freaked me out.
"Where were we?" the woman asked grabbing her notebook while sitting down on the chair. I awkwardly laid down on the couch. "The start of your career, I see," She immediately answered.
I sighed. "How is that important to my problem, at all?" I rolled my eyes mentally.
"It's not, if you don't wanna talk about it, then that's fine, if it traumatizes you."
"It doesn't traumatize me, I just don't see how it's useful in my.. recovery," I mumbled.
"Well, let's start with your relationships then," The woman spoke loudly.
"I've only had one, so far."
"Are you in one right now?"
"Yes, no, yes, it's complicated," I said, tears forming in my eyes.
"How?"
"We're married, but.. about to get a divorce."
"Married at 20? I see. Is your.. problem the issue for the divorce?"
I nodded. She sighed, scrabbling down some more on her paper.
"Okay, tell me how it all started, your relationship."
I looked at the clock, I still had another half hour to go. "I met her a little over two years ago online, she was a model and a singer and we just started talking. She's from Paris, so at a certain moment we were touring in France and we met up, and it immediately felt right."
"Right in what way?" She asked, her high pitched voice echoed in the room.
"Like I had found my soulmate," I softly said. She nodded a bit hesitant. "And we went on a date and we had a good time, and then I had to leave..."
"That's when things went downhill?"
"A bit, I just immediately felt emptier," I sighed. "So we start dating, we see each other sometimes but living in a nine hour time difference never made things easier.."
"So you..?" She suggested.
"I, uh, I got drunk and slept with other girls, telling myself they were her just to get myself through a night."
The woman nodded writing it down. "How long did that continue?"
"It never stopped," I whispered tears escaping my eyes.
"You don't live together now you're married?"
"We do, but when she travels, or when I have to travel, I still do it, and I don't know why."
She frowned. "What do you mean you don't know why?"
I shrugged. "I love her, but I just keep ruining her. I destroyed her. I drove her to seeking refuge in someone else."
"Who is that someone else?"
"Does that matter?"
"Try," she nodded comforting.
"One of my best friends."
"And does he like her in that way?"
I nodded. "He's had his eyes on her the moment he saw her."
"Just like you? Only she chose you instead of your friend?"
"Yes."
"Why are you here Daniel?"
"To fix it."
"For who? For yourself?"
"To fix me, so I can fix her."
She looked me in the eye. "Relationships aren't like vases, you can't drop them and glue them back together."
"I know that bu-"
"I know you love her, I can tell. But you have to want this for you, you have to want this because you hate the way you act; the fantasies you have or the problem you have with being alone, not because you want to fix your relationship."
I sighed. "I do want to change for me."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure; I'm gonna change for me."
