I shut my eyes as the glare of the sun shone through the playroom window. Maybe if I wished hard enough band camp wouldn't be today. I shook my head, it was too soon to start dreading the eight hours dedicated to rehearsal. Rehearsal is split into two blocks. The second block from 1-4 wasn't as bad as the morning block of running around the concrete field.
This year I had decided to run before camp started so that I could be fit and prepared for the horrid running exercise known as breathing block. Of course, that didn't happen. I had early morning dates with either my Xbox 360 or Netflix. Occasionally I would spend time with YouTube or my family, but no matter what I did, I always had a book. Wether I was rereading Harry Potter or reading The Immortal series by Alyson Noël, I was never without a book. If only I had spent at least a little time, if not running, walking around my neighborhood. Maybe next year will better, I highly doubt that though. As long as the Winchesters, Sherlock, and Doctor live, I will watch Netflix almost religiously before band camp.
"Elizabeth," My mom called from her room. I groaned to signify that I was awake. "Band camp starts today."
Yeah Mom, I know. I sat up on the futon. My legs were already sore.
"Elizabeth,"
"Yes, Mom," I grumble rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
"Go get ready please."
I sighed, but got up and trudged to my room to change into my Nike shorts and tank top. After making sure that I had put all my clothes on correctly, I walked to the bathroom next to my room to put my hair up.
"Ew, c'mon curls, control yourself," I mumbled to myself. In the mornings my auburn hair curled in the weirdest directions. Brushing my ridiculous hair, would be one of the most painful things of my life until I either died or lost all of my hair. Sadly, when brushed thoroughly it was, in my opinion, my second best feature right after my hazel eyes. Brushing thoroughly took too much time today, so I quickly ran a brush through my hair and pulled it into a ponytail.
"Elizabeth, what do you want on your bagels?" My mom asked from downstairs. How had she gotten past me without me noticing? I just have to add that to my mental list of mysterious in this world. Among them was how the Japanese put the marble in their soda bottles.
"Peanut butter and honey, please." I began the trek down my few stairs and into the kitchen. My red water jug was sitting on the window bench at the back of the kitchen. My inhaler, bandana, and sunglasses were all sitting on its lid. I walked by my mom, spreading peanut butter on my ET bagels.
After moving the objects and taking off the lid, I placed a couple of handfuls of ice into the jug then filled it with water from the refrigerator. My mom had finished putting peanut butter and honey on the bagels and placed them at my spot on the table.
I grabbed all my stuff and placed it by the front door. My friend Addison Clarence would be picking me up to take me to Band Camp. I mentally cringed. I wasn't ready for this at all.
Addison came to my door a whole minute after I finished eating breakfast.
"Hey, ready for this?" She asked straightening her ginger ponytail.
"No, but I'm gonna go and suffer through it."
She nodded as my mom shut the door behind us.
"How're things with your mom?" Addison asked. I thought about my answer as her mom opened the truck to their red Chevy for me to put my water jug in.
"Complicated," I said after setting the jug down and walking around to the side door.
"What's complicated?" Mrs. Clarence asked. Addison gave me the sorry-my-mom-is-being-nosy-again look.
