Crystal Lake

Life weaved a blade of grass in between her fingers.  She lightly touched the crystal lake and created a ripple effect.

"Show me happiness."  She said softly.  The lake's ripples slowed and became a smooth surface. A little boy appeared.  He had curly brown hair and sparkling hazel eyes. He was in a field of wildflowers in the countryside.

"Awww, so precious." Life said as she continued to touch the lake.

...

8 hours passed since Death had seen Life.

He sighed and walked to the door.  Death went outside and the clouds immediately covered parts of the sun.  He took a few steps and the grass beneath his feet turned brown and crunchy.

He spotted Life near her tree and walked towards the crystal clear lake.

"Hi Death!" She said happily as she sat criss crossed on the grass.  Death sat next to her and his surroundings still changed.  The crystal lake went a bit murky.  Mud started to clump up in the water and its blue haze gradually started turning black.

Life looked at the swirling mess of brown water and was a bit alarmed. "Oh no! Mrs. James! She was doing fine until..."

Death looked at the murky part of the water. "Oh no, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

Death expected this to happen.  It was the curse he bore.  He wasn't really sad, but he wasn't happy either.

He stood up and started to walk away.  Life quickly took his hand.   "Wait! Death! Don't go!"

Death didn't stop.  "It's fine, I'll see you at dinner."  Life let go in defeat.

"Ok," she said. She looked back at the crystal lake. The murkiness was disappearing and in the replacement of the tragedy, a little girl was born.  Life smiled a bit and continued to watch.
