Life and Death were transported back to their world.

Life went upstairs in their house and didn't come back out until dinner time.  She was silent as she ate.

Death felt so sad for her.  An emptiness seemed to also fill the room, a kind that he had never felt before.

He stopped eating and got up from his seat and extended his hand.  She paused and looked at it, eventually taking it when Death said, "Please."  They both slow danced and she put her head on his shoulder.

"Death?  Do you love me?" Life asked.

Death nodded.  "Of course I do.  Without life, there is no death.  You complete me, and I complete you."

Life stopped dancing and looked at him.  "I know... but why?  He was just a child.  The husband has no partner now.  I know there was pain, but this will be like an eternal scar for them both."

Death sighed, "It was just her time."  He took out his own pocket watch.  It was black and silver. The time kept counting down, and it would continue doing that for all of eternity.

"Life, we can not always be fair.  There are always ups and downs."  A few tears left both their faces.

"Death?  I need some time alone."  Life said.

Death looked at her with a bit of shock. "Life-"

She looked deep into his midnight blue eyes, but then quickly looked away.  Death understood.

"Before you go, I want you to have this." He took out a mini silver blade. It shimmered in Life's presence.

"It's my dimensional portal opener.  Like the crystal lake, it will transport you to another realm.  Promise me you'll visit."

Life took it and then opened up a portal.  She looked back and said two final words.  "I promise."
