THE MEAN GIRL FACADE .
" offence is the best defence "how to not get your heart broken 101: pretend you don't have one.
mackenzie frances ziegler. known for her sarcastic humour and clueless act— when in reality she's at the top of her class with straight a's.
ever since the fourth grade when mackenzie became best friend's with the most popular girl in school loren gray, she started to shut people out. by the end of the year she would never show how she truly felt. the once loving and innocent brunette became cold hearted and sarcastic.
it was only in fifth grade that she let another brunette, annie leblanc, know how she really felt. annie was the only person she could talk to without the fear of being judged. the two instantly clicked and bonded over how their family lives sucked and how hard it was to stay popular.
once you entered the popular clique you would have a hard time leaving. as much as they secretly despised each other, everyone had everyone's back. the populars knew so much about each other that once you leave they'll make you their biggest target, using your deepest and darkest secrets against you: one of the many reasons mackenzie played dumb and shared her secrets with caution.
last year was the populars' last year together before they all went their separate ways. half of the group split up and went to middleton high while the other half now attend carrington college (high schools in australia are sometime called *insert a school name* college). mackenzie on the other hand went to fabrice's art institute with her kindergarten best friend: john vincent orlando.
the once best friends hardly acknowledged one another's presence. both were so absorbed in making their way up the ninth grade social ladder they forgot all about their past together. that was until they both ended up most popular in the ninth grade. but being in the same clique didn't make them best buddies, they only ever hung out in groups and when they had math together.
the first year of high school mackenzie was so busy social climbing that she and annie rarely had time to talk. of course, they tried but as time went on they grew distant leaving mackenzie to bottle up her emotions once again.
fabrice's art institute have the most talented artists but they also have the biggest gossipers. mackenzie ziegler is a commonly spoken topic at school. on daily basis people would doubt her asking if she could cope playing the flute and laughing when she said she was doing really well. no one would believe she got her place out of talent, rather they thought the only reason she was there was because her rich parents bought het spot. there was nothing she could do about it of course, popularity came at a price, and that price she shall pay.
the things people said always cut deep but brunette was used to keep her emotions from surfacing. it was a skill she mastered over the years.
school taught her a valuable lesson: offence is the best defence.
