What could have been...(Completed)

Itachi's decision

The night after hearing his orders to kill the Uchiha Clan, his clan Itachi secretly packed a bag and poked a sleeping Sasuke's forehead, wishing be could take him with him  before leaving in the dead of night. He glanced back at the Uchiha Estate with a heavy guilty heart. "I'm sorry... I just can't..." he began to walk away until he heard soft foot steps. Itachi didn't have to glance back to know who it was but gave a sigh and turned to meet the sad dark eyes of Izumi Uchiha. "I can't take it anymore..." he glanced at the bag she had back before looked back into her eyes. "Things are getting out of hand, I was wrong and niave to believe what I did about the clan... I over heard your father and the elders talking and what they have planned.. it's just not right." Itachi didn't reply knowing the burnette Sharingan user had more to say, she gave a small sniff. "I have to leave... I can't stay here know what they will do... I'll go to Kumogakure or even Iwagakure but I won't stay here." The raven haired Sharingan user was quiet for a few more minutes before finally speaking. "You can go with me... if you want." Itachi had an uneasy feeling about her traveling alone even though he knew she could hold her own, if he could save one member of his clan other the his brother it would be here, she might have annoyed him at times but she was a kind good person and she deserved to live. Part of him wanted to bring Sasuke with him but knew his little brother would only slow him down. She was stunned by his words and stared him until he turned away to continue walking. Izumi gave a smile and happily followed her crush, not caring where he led her. She would follow Itachi any where if given the chance and this was her chance. 

The brunette Sharingan user wasn't sure what the future would hold for them and it worried her but she did know she trusted Itachi and that they would find out together. Neither spoke as they traveled out of the village, the night was cool but comfortable with a light breeze. Itachi looked up at the moon, it was full with a graceful glow giving them a decent amount of light to see in the dark. He glanced back at Izumi who also looked at the moon but with a small smile on her face. "I plan on stopping in Yugakure. I'll probably stay there for a few day if not more then continue to go further towards Kumogakure if needed. I will probably serve Yugure once I get there and until further notice, you can do what you want." "Yugakure sounds like a good start... it's peaceful and quiet. A perfect place to start over." She claimed with a smile making the raven haired Sharingan user look away from her. "So you're staying with me?" "Of course, we need to stick together. We are friends and comrades, I'll follow you as long as you let me." Izumi stated then blushed lightly and rubbed her arm. "If that's okay with..." "It doesn't matter to me." He claimed and that's all was said for the rest of their journey, it took a couple of days to reach Yugakure but Izumi knew it would be worth it. When they reached the village she let out a sigh, happy to be able to rest. They settled in a two bed hotel room for the time being and relaxed after their journey. 

Itachi made plans to talk to the leader of the village in the morning but for now he sat in bed and stared at his headband. He took a Kunai and stretched over the symbol with water eyes. "Itachi..." Izumi called to him quietly before he wiped his eyes. "We are traitors... I'm a coward... I'm weak... I shou- "stop it!" She shouted as she grabbed his forehead protector. "Don't talk like that! You did what you thought was right! You might be a traitor but you're a traitor with a heart! How could they ask you to do such a thing..." she whispered the last part as she gripped his headband. He glanced at her and noticed she had began to cry making him sigh. "Izumi... you know... don't you?" She shock her head yes before places his forehead protector on his bed. "I knew they would send someone to kill the clan, we are too powerful and had enough clan members to easily take over or wipe out the village if we wanted... it would have to be someone close to the clan so why not you? It made sense. It wasn't hard to figure out. I wondered when you would or if you would, I wondered when my last day would be..." Itachi laid on the bed to avoid looking at her sad face any longer. "You don't have to worry about it now... you're going to live a long life. I promise." She smiled at him and wiped her eyes. "Thank you Itachi..." "Let's get some sleep, I have to talk to the leader of the village tomorrow." Izumi gave a nod and crawled into her bed and soon drifted to sleep. Itachi stared at the ceiling wondering if he made the the right choice. He gave a sigh and turned to his side. He thought of Sasuke and his parents, he wondered what would become of them. "Itachi... don't torture yourself go to sleep." The brunette muttered in a sleepy tone. He glanced at her, he wondering if she was talking in her sleep before glancing away and tried to get some sleep knowing he needed it.
