It’s evening when we finally reach the capital city.

My father is close…

At the edge of the city I can see a huge, ornately carved golden gate. Gatekeepers wearing armor and wielding spears stand guard. Beyond the gate is an imposing castle surrounded by beautiful greenery.

“Aaahh!” The King’s knights have returned!”

“They’re so dreamy!”

As we head towards the gate, throngs of young girls surround the carriage.

“Look over here! Please shake my hand!”

“What a bunch of idiots,” Haku commented. “They don’t know the first thing about us. Right, Kenny?”

“Don’t ask me,” Kenny replied.

“I thought we could finally relax and now this…” Shion said. “What a pain in the ass…”

The knights are surrounded by fans. It seems like Lute is ridiculously popular among the young girls.

“Sir Lute! I’m so thrilled to meet you, Sir Lute!”

“I’m always rooting for you, Sir Lute!!”

“Thanks,” Lute replied.

“Aaahhh! HE LOOKED AT ME!!”

“Sir Lute… He’s like a fairytale prince!”

“I wish I could be a princess so Sir Lute could protect me!”

Every time Lute smiles, the crowd goes wild, and I even see some girls weeping…

Wow, he is really popular! I guess that’s why he has a fan club…

“Please watch your step, Princess,” Lute said.

“T-Thank you.”

Lute casually cautions me. He gently places his hand on the small of my back to protect me from the crowd. It’s such a strange sensation, the feel of his hand just barely touching me…

“Who’s the girl next to Sir Lute?”

“I’m so jealous she gets to be escorted by Sir Lute!”

I hear the girls whisper to each other, and I suddenly feel awkward.

“I’m fine, Lute,” I implied, “you don’t-”

“Nonsense,” he interrupted. “It’s my job to protect the Princess. I shall accompany you until we reach the palace.”

Lute takes in all the cheers from his fans without ever leaving my side. And now the gatekeepers are slowly opening the large castle gates for us to pass.

Wow…

As we enter the palace, I look around in amazement. Portraits of all the kings and queens over the years decorate the walls. A dazzling chandelier hangs overhead. The walls are adorned with gold leaf. Everything I look at elicits a sigh from me.

“We’ve been waiting for you, Princess,” an elder said. “Welcome home.”

“Welcome home!” cheered the servants.

All the servants and castle attendants stand before me in a row. The knights the line up in front of me and drop to one knee. And reverently welcome me to the castle with everyone else.

“Um…”

I can’t believe so many people are here to welcome me!

“Everyone here is your servant, milady,” Lute implied. “Please instruct them however you desire.”
