After agreeing to meet in the common area at eight o'clock p.m. for the party, the group disperses. Dash decides to find his, and Kaelie's, room back in the residential center. His legs hurt, and his mind is spinning -- whether it was from the plane ride here or the butterflies in his stomach that was causing this, Dash did not know. He was exhausted, and now, he was beginning to feel nervous. This was all new to him. First, he was being separated by his sister, Violet. In fact, it had just come to his attention that he was competing against Violet -- she was one of his competitors to beat in order to get the prize that he was eager for. And now, the sudden realization of having to fight to the death against these new acquaintances was beginning to scare him. All of this, for what? Was being able to use this machine -- which, for the record, no one has confirmed actually works -- worth it? Or maybe it's not all for this machine, this material prize. Maybe it's for the glory. Maybe this was just an excuse to prove his family that he, Dash Parr, was a legitimate super. He was ambitious, but above all, he was self-conscious of his image. He liked being the best, and perhaps the real reason why he agreed to be a part of Winston Deavor's competition was to show his family, and the world, that he was the real deal. He was sick of being compared to Violet, and he wanted to show his parents that he, too, was a capable super. He wanted world-recognition, fear from villains around the world... and to accomplish that, participating in this competition would be Dash's first step.

Dash enters the posh residential center, where five of the DevTech mentors whom Winston had introduced earlier were lounging in the armchairs in the lobby.

"Good afternoon," one of the mentors says, standing up. "It looks like you are the first one to arrive here to check out your room. Good strategy. I'm Sebastian." He sticks out his hand and gives Dash a firm shake.

"I'm Dash," he replies.

"Oh!" Sebastian gasps. "You're Dash! Well, I am the mentor of Dash Parr and Kaelie Kim. Nice to meet you, buddy!" Then, Sebastian brings Dash into a big hug.

"Cool!" Dash exclaims. He was happy that he got a friendly mentor.

"Let me show you to your room," Sebastian finally says, and Dash follows his mentor up the white marble stairs. "Your room, which will be shared with Kaelie, is on the second floor. The room is completely interactive, so if you need anything, you can just communicate with the room with the touchscreen. I recommend you get a headstart from your peers and begin playing around with that touchscreen. It is able to show you your body stats, whether it is blood pressure or heart rate, which will be helpful after fights to check that you are in tip-top shape. And, you can also order any food you'd like if you're hungry, and the room will make it for you in mere seconds with a state-of-the-art molecular synthesizer."

"Wow..." Dash breathes out as he follows Sebastian into his new room. Just like the rest of the island, Dash's new "room" was luxurious and voluminous.

"Quick question," Dash started as he sat down on one of the plush seating of the living room. "So...Kaelie and I will have separate beds, right?" Dash had never shared a room with a girl before, let alone a very pretty one.

Sebastian laughs. "Of course. Each of you gets a separate bedroom with your very own bathroom. Here at DevTech, we're all for mingling with new friends, regardless of gender, race, or sex."

Dash nods. He truly liked it here, and he began to think about Violet and what she was doing now.

"So," Sebastian says, standing up. "I'll let you get used to the room for a while. My advice to you now is this: Make allies. I heard a rumor from the staff that the first game that Winston has set up is a cooperative game -- a team-based game. Find the strongest, smartest, and fastest people, and befriend them. Good luck." And with that, Sebastian turns and leaves the room. Dash looks around. The only person he could think of that fit Sebastian's description was the Chinese boy he had saw earlier, the boy he had deemed his unofficial enemy.
