Chapter 2: The Council Returns

•Rory's POV•

We followed Anastasia away from White Chapel. Away from my friends, my parents, school...

Something told me that it was wrong to go away. But Anastasia said that it was too dangerous to go back and that Stern would kill every vampire that tried.

I flinched as a giant attack of headache hit me. It was over as fast and unexpected as it came.

"Come on! Don't stay behind! We have to get a lot of miles between us and this town tonight!" Anastasia's screaming voice echoed through my head.

"But...but..." Everything in my brain started turning around.

"If it's about your friends, don't worry you won't see them again. Even if they did manage to survive, Stern won't let them get out of the town." Anastasia sounded really annoyed and I didn't want any trouble with her. Even though she looked like a ten year old girl she was one of the oldest and most powerful vampires I'd ever met. So I decided to shut up.

But something of what she said kept nagging inside my brain. Suddenly I realized what it was.

"Right! My friends! They said it's okay to come back!"

"What are you talking about?!" Erica hissed at me. I figured she hated leaving as much as me.

“Ethan, he was in my head…he told me it was okay to come back!”

More and more images from Ethan and the others time in my head came rushing back. That probably explained the headache I had earlier.

“The others were there too!” I said. ”Sarah, Benny …and even Jesse!”

Erica gave me a weird look: „Jesse? I think you’re totally losing it now!” she muttered.

“No I swear it’s true! Ethan teleported them into my brain…or something” To my surprise Anastasia seemed to believe me.

“I’ve heard about that. Some seers have the ability to do this. But why would I trust the judgment of a mortal? Your friends can’t possible know if Stern is gone for good.”

“But…but Jesse said something about killing him, I remembered a shiver running down my back, I really wouldn’t enjoy being at Jesse’s Who-To-Kill-List.

“Well…” Anastasia seemed uncertain what to do next.

Erica interrupted her: „Does that mean I actually can go back?!” she seemed really excited. I was too, finally they believed me.

“Technically…” Anastasia said hesitant. “But half of the Council fell prey to the Lucifractor and the other half fled to the four corners of the earth. We can’t return like this. We don’t know what we’re up against. The Lucifractor could still have aftereffects or maybe Stern is not even dead!” her young voice sounded panic-stricken.

“However that doesn’t seem to be our concern!” Erica said and turned around angrily. She started walking towards White Chapel: “Come on Rory!” she shouted and I hurried to follow her.

“Fine. Get yourself killed. What do I care?” Anastasia shouted after us. For once she really sounded like a ten year old.

The roads of White Chapel were dark and empty. Even the town center was deserted. Then again, since it was a pretty small town, it usually always was this late at night.
