My name bounces around and around in my head.
I must be dreaming, I think. But when I see many faces suddenly looking at me, I know I'm doomed.
I'm pretty sure my mother is now in total shock, but I don't hear anything. I myself feel so nauseous that I almost lost my balance. I never expected to be called, and I thought I would get away.

Turns out I was wrong.

My heart hammering like never before, I tried to walk up the stage with confidence. I shake the district escort's gloved hand and face the crowd. I can see my mother, hugging and burying her face in my brother's hair.

After the post-selection speech, I shake hands with the other tributes and the peacekeepers throw us each into a room.

My mother bursts in first and my brother next. We hug each other and I promise them that I'll do my best to win, even though I know theres a very high chance that I'll die.

"Haymitch," she says, patting my back as I continuously choke tears out. "It's possible to win. You just have to find something the others don't know about." I look at her, pondering her words.

The peacekeepers drag them away and she screams but they are stronger than her. My girlfriend enters a few moments later. She's too shocked to speak and we just hug each other and cry for the precious minute we have.

She looks into my eyes.

"You'll try to win, won't you?"

I nod sadly and she hugs me again before they drag her out.

I sit in the dark room and curl up at a corner before a bunch of peacekeepers barge in and walk me out.
