Ray paced anxiously in the ER waiting room unsure of what to do.

He had gotten a call saying that his boyfriend, Joel, had gotten into a car accident and was being airlifted to Seton Medical Center. The double doors swung open as Ray turned to make another lap and a woman wearing teal-green scrubs and a white lab coat approached him.

"Mr. Narvaez?"

"Yes?"

"I'm Doctor Parker. I understand Joel is your boyfriend."

A panicked look flashed across his face. "Is he okay?"  She nodded "It seems that at the time of impact or maybe just before he underwent a cataplectic state. It's sort of like becoming a ragdoll in extreme situations, playing 'possum almost." She chuckled to herself. "It's a good thing he did because it saved his life."

Ray let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding. "But, he did receive some blunt force trauma to his head and that has resulted in retrograde amnesia." "Oh," Ray replied in a sad tone.

"How long will it last?"

She placed her hands in her coat pockets. "It's hard to say. This type of amnesia can last from a few days to months. But other than that he's fine. He'll be released shortly."

"Can I see him," he asked "Sure. Follow me," Parker replied. She led him through the brightly lit corridor to a small outpatient room.
