During the first week of the mid-semester break, Seth and I spend plenty of time together whether that be as a group or alone time in either of our rooms and today was one of those nights. Seth and I were settled in his bedroom in the frat house, cuddled closely together on his bed despite the bed being queen sized. My head was resting on his chest and I revelled in the feeling of being this close to him without the scrutinising eyes of others.
Since it was Seth's turn to decide which movie we watched, he had settled on the thrilling action movie 'I am Legend,' and it was safe to say that there was more than one reason why I am huddled so closely to Seth. "I swear to God, I don't care how many people die in this movie, but if that dog dies I can't make any promises that I won't cry." The beautifully coloured German Shepherd made the movie and with how precious and loyal he was, I would be severely pissed if he didn't make it.
Seth becomes tight-lipped and remains silent regarding my rant and I immediately know that angry and emotional Lily would be coming out tonight. Not too long after I've made my comments, a scene begins where Will Smith's character gets caught in his own damn trap and I can already foresee the coming events.
"What an idiot. Like what the fuck. How stupid can you be!" My voice portrays my rage and I have the sudden urge to rip my hair out of my head in annoyance. Minutes go on and the infected people come rushing out to stand along the line of the pavement which has a remaining sliver of sun, protecting Will and the dog. The only thing keeping them safe and it's slowly disappearing as the sunsets behind the city buildings. The poor dog attempts to save Will to the best of its ability before being bitten by one of those evil bloody monsters and that scene alone brings tears to my eyes.
"Motherfucker," I try to say it with spite but my words come out garbled because those brimming tears have overflown and my throat is thick.
"Are you seriously crying right now, it's just a dog and it's just a movie?" He chuckles as he pulls me even closer into his arms—as if we weren't already past the point of closeness—letting me cry into his shirt even though he'll get stains. "There, there. It's okay, I'm sure he'll go to doggy heaven."
I scoff and smack his chest but thinking about the movie also reminds me of my own German Shepherd and just how much I miss having him around.
As if reading my thoughts, as per usual, Seth tentatively brings up a topic I hadn't ever thought we would discuss: Meeting each other's parents, or guardians in my case. "So I've been thinking, and it's totally cool if you're not okay with the idea, but I thought it would be good since our guardians since they don't live very far from campus. If you'd like, I thought you could come to celebrate my little brother's birthday with me and meet my mum, we could also drop in a see your aunt and uncle, oh and Zeus." As he awaits my answer he nervously wrings his hand around the back of his neck, his eyes downcast.
Even though the idea of meeting the people who mean so much to him and trying to make a good first impression frightens me, I respond with, "I'd really like that."
His expression changes almost immediately and he beams, brushing my last tears from my eyes as he places a feather-light kiss to my lips before returning his attention to the movie.
"Oh, and my mum said we stay at hers while we're visiting and sleep together in my old room. She's really excited to meet you."
"Wait, what." My mouth drops in shock as he grins cheekily, once again saying nothing. "I'm beginning to think you're trouble, King."
"But you like trouble." He spares a glance to wink at me.
"Yeah, maybe I'm beginning to..."
