Destiny

4 - Situation

Yesterday was fantastic, I finally have a solid motive to go on. It was refreshing... although, something important was missing. My situation.. I have no idea what's going on right now. So I decided to get up, and see if 2B or Anemone was present. Just in my luck, I saw 2B, "Ah! 2B, I..." My words trailed off, as I noticed her walking with a male figure. For a few moments, I just stared at them, unknowing what to say. Finally, some words formed, "Hi, who are you?" Such awkward tension carried those words, but it's all I could let out. After all, it IS what I wanted to know.

"Oh, uhm, I'm 9S. YoRHa Unit 9S.", he replied. 9S, huh? He was shorter than 2B, and had the same color scheme. Is this what "YoRHa units" generally look like? Well.. can't ask right now. To be honest, I'd rather ask 2B herself, not someone I barely know anything about. The boy then questioned the same for me, "What about you? Who are you?" Unsure of how to answer, I blanked out for a few moments. The androids seem to not respond normally to me being a human, so I should just stick to a name for now, "I'm Gardenia! Nice to meet you." At that moment, I stuck out a hand for a handshake, but 9S seemed not to know what to do at first.

He seemed to realize before I could say anything, and then embraced my hand in his. His expression then turned into a little shock, "Your hands are warm." Quickly, I jerked my hand back. I didn't mean to, it was just a reaction, and I immediately felt bad. "Oh.. sorry. I don't know why I did that..", I rubbed the back of my head and laughed it off. Man, I sure hope if we become friends that our friendship doesn't keep this awkward.  Staring at the boy, I then averted my attention towards 2B, "Are you guys going on that dangerous mission you told Anemone about?" She sighed slightly out of annoyance, probably now wondering how much the resistance leader has told me.

"No. This is a different mission. You might be coming with us.", she said, exciting me a little, "but don't count on it." Pouting, I stated to not give hope and then crush it like that. 9S got a chuckle out of it, but 2B found it nothing more than aggravation... probably. She's hard to read, so I'm not sure myself, honestly. The male androids face then showed interest, "What kind of unit is she? What will she be doing on the field with us?" As I was here trying not to freak him out, 2B just blurts out, "She's a human. She'll be taking training on the smaller machine lifeforms while we take out the stronger ones." Immediately, 9S had questions, "Huh?! Shouldn't she be on the moon?!"

"...the moon?", I questioned. Amnesia sure sucks right now.. if only I could answer my own questions. The two androids stared at each other, and even though their eyes were covered with blindfolds, I could feel the hidden information in their gaze. Suffocating in being left out, I spoke up, "2B. I actually wanted to.. well.. you never explained everything like you said you would. Could you tell me what's going on with the humans, and me if you know anything?" Her face was locked in the same direction as mine, deciding what to say next. "Please, 2B.", I said with true concern.

My eyes were locked onto my knees.. the humans.. aliens.. androids... "Nothing makes sense!", I cried. The rest of my body slammed onto my bed, and I screamed into my pillow. "I understand it's much to take in, but such a scene is unnecessary.", she stated. For a second, I gave her a look of disgust, and suddenly exhaled. Trying to keep my body together, I attempted to revise a bit more, "So.. humans are on the moon. I'm the only human on Earth. You guys are trying to get humans back on Earth, and the machines are fighting to keep the aliens reign." I sighed, while getting up I dusted off my skirt.

"Basically. I didn't know there was a single human that wasn't aware!", the boy let out. 2B then added, "I thought the same.. possible theories are that she was sent here as a warrior, was left here by a family, or.. is actually really, really old." I snickered at that last remark, but it quickly settle in how serious that could be. Let's backtrack. The place I woke up in was a laboratory.. where I slightly believed I woke up from being frozen. Now, with the little more information we have, it's even more possible than ever.. no. I'm only sixteen, and that's how long I've been alive. That's the facts.

Sighing, I walked towards the exit, "Well.. I can't really have a crisis over this all day. Let's go on the mission thing.. if I'm still qualified to go." "You know, you sure do seem to be taking this better than most humans would've.", 9S spoke. Now that I think about it, I really am.. but it's pretty obvious why. "I'm not like most humans. I don't even remember who I am.. for the most part.", I stated. The boy just nodded, and we all headed out to the camp. After conversing with 2B for a bit, I fully convinced her to let me onto the mission. Although, it's not hard to tell that she's hesitant on doing so.

Whether it's out of concern, or to preserve humanity, it always makes me feel touched. Anemone and 2B are the first people that have actually "cared" for me, so I treasure them greatly. That's besides the point, though. At this moment, I need to prepare.. prepare for my first mission. Heading back to my room, I scavenged all around for my sword. No where to be seen. Panicking, I looked again, and again. Just when I was about to give up, I turned around to see the female android holding my weapon. "Ah.. where was it?", I questioned. 2B just handed it to me and said, "I took it whenever you collapsed. You can't leave without a weapon."

That was oddly... threatening and comforting at the same time. Grasping onto my weapon, I smiled at 2B, "Thank you." She didn't respond, but she did stare for a few moments, which is definitely more than enough for me. The three of us then gathered in the middle of the camp, and I went to say my goodbyes to Anemone. "Woah, she really let you latch on?", she asked. I beamed brightly, "Yeah! I doubt it'll be any other time though.. but isn't it so cool?" We chatted for a few minutes, and then finally said our farewells. Anemone wished me to be safe, and I hope for the same.

Little did I know, this would begin the story of my adventure.. my adventure as Gardenia, with 2B and 9S.
