THE WIND

Even though she was deaf, she felt like she could hear the wind. The warning wind. Something was loose, attacking every citizen who lived in this isolated town. She ran outside just to make sure. Then she saw it, the creator she feared, the creature everyone feared. She also saw the warning lights. She had to run, but if she made a sound, she would be over. She gently closed the door and took strategic step-by-step hoping not to creak a floorboard. She stepped over the threshold that changed from wood to carpet, she looked around, hoping that the creature was not right behind her. She went downstairs to the safe zone. The rest of her family was down there, they said We were calling you! Why didn't you come? In ASL. Her baby brother was in her mother's arms, her mother's hand pressed so tightly around his mouth that she couldn't even see him scream. Suddenly, her father shushed her with a finger, he pointed upstairs. They are here, he signed.

A tear left her eye and she hugged her dad, more tears escaping. She did not want to die, but at the same time, she was curious about what these murderous creatures looked like from up close. She felt nauseous, she ran to the bathroom. When she got in there she closed the door, quietly. Then, something fell on her, it was dust. Dust from the ceilings, the creature was making dust fall, with footsteps so heavy. She almost laughed, but then shut up immediately remembering the creature was right above her. She sat down in front of the toilet without so much as a tap. Quiet was key right now.

Someone once signed her that the wind is what brought these monsters, they brought the eggs to their town and then they grew, when they were around the wind sounded different, she didn't know how it sounded or how the normal plain wind sounded. But, she could feel when the wind changed from calm to dangerous. She spits out some bile that was in her mouth. She went over to the mirror to look at herself when she saw the creature staring at her reflection. Don't make a sound, she thought. She quickly turned around and saw the ruffled towel, she was just paranoid. She opened the door of the bathroom right as it slammed shut. It was slammed shut by a crimson figure, who has golden hair. Her mother. Then the door cracked, right down the middle.

Not all the way, but enough that she could see what was happening outside of the bathroom. She saw the creature. She was frozen, petrified. She ran to the shower and slid open its glass door. She stepped inside and closed the door. Sitting down, knees up to her chest, eyes squinted shut. She looked down and folded her hands. Our Father, who art in Heaven... She was interrupted by the glass door shaking and looked up to see a bloody handprint. And next to that, her mother's beautiful face covered in thick red, liquid. She seemed to be yelling something. The girl could make it out just enough before her mother was torn away and flung across the basement. She was yelling RUN. The girl opened the door and climbed out as quickly as she could. Her mother was torn to shreds, and the creatures blind eyes were on father. The girl wanted to scream to do all she could to save her family. But, it was too late. She ran up the stairs. Her baby brother was laying all bundled up on the stairs. She grabbed him and ran upstairs opening the door, then slamming it shut.

She slid past the creaking floorboards and ran up to her room, grabbing a towel on the way by. She ran in and quietly closed the door, and slid under the bed with her brother. She took the towel and covered her brother's mouth with it, hoping that every scream, cry, and whimper would be muffled. She looked over at the door when it flew open. Two pale, talons stepped in followed by three more. One was in her room. A creature was in her room. The same one that had killed her wonderful parents. She clamped her mouth shut with her free hand. It was circling her bed, talons tapping on her carpet. She closed her eyes. Squeezing them shut so tight they hurt. What felt like years later, she opened her eyes. The monster was gone. She slowly and quietly crawled out from under the bed. She stood up , and turned around. The creature was on her bed. Then, the girl screamed.
