Eida was a little nervous about the coming snowstorm. It was a couple days out, but soon it would be in. The wind was gently tapping on the glass, producing a little howling whistle. So she decided to take a walk. The wind splitting her straightened hair into the frozen and then thawed. She heard a crack and whipped around to see who, or what was following her. It was nothing. Probably justice. Eida thought. Another crack. This time she did not turn around, she just kept on strolling past the barrier of trees that led to another part her neighborhood. Another crack, but this time it was more like something moving for the first time for many, many years. She turned around and there it was, the barrier of trees stretching for miles and miles. A tree was holding a different position then it was before, Eida should have been scared, but the delicate layers of ice blanketing the tree made it shimmer in the daylight. She took out her phone and snapped a photo. She put her phone back in her pocket, and could not believe her eyes. The tree moved again. This time it seemed to be reaching down for Eida.
She knew something was up with this tree, so she decided to take another picture. She returned her phone to her pocket, but the tree was now moving. It's branches caving in on her. A frozen vine started to wrap around her leg, it pulled her and Eida tripped. She was now laying on her stomach, the branches trapping her, the vine pulling on her leg. All she could do was scream. "HELP!" Eida struggled. Then her high pitched screams caused a fury of icicles to come raining down around her, they kept on falling, getting closer and closer. She was able to grip onto one, then another pulling herself out but the vine starting pulling harder dragging her along the rugged, frosted grass. She struggled some more the branches getting so close to entrapping her forever. She got a grip on an icicle and pulled. With her other hand, she grabbed the vine and ripped it in half, now lying lifeless among the ground. She was crawling out, she was making it.
One...more...inch... Then everything stopped. It just...froze. She inched completely out. Everything was frozen. The houses, the cars... the people. Everything except for Eida... and the trees. They started to move again, this time the whole barrier of trees. She started to run, the trees started to chase. They were ripping the ground out, their frozen roots filling the streets. "HELP!" Eida was screaming again, but it was no use. Eida was running back to her house. She tore open the door, slammed it close, and locked it. Eida ran up to her room, grabbing a knife from the kitchen along the way. She locked the door to her room, shut and locked the windows, and drew the shades. She grabbed her phone, that was still snug in her pocket. And dialed 911. No one picked up. "Someone! Help ME!" she shrieked into the phone. But all she could hear was her own muffled voice. She was huddled up under her blankets when she heard a tap on the glass. Oh fu... the icy branch broke through her window mid-thought. "No please!" the branch grabbed her, but she tore away and opened the door. On the other side was a root spiked with ice. She ran to her closet, the frozen plant trailing behind her. The branch grabbed and wrapped around her waist. "OWW! STOP YOU MOTHER-TRUCKER!" She screamed as the branch lashed her out the window. She was several feet above the ground, and all that was below her were frozen spikes. Eida was upside down looking at the branches-turned-spikes. The branch loosened its grip and Eida went crashing down through the cold arms of the tree. She came plummeting to the ground.
She felt like she just got off Frazer 4000, the tallest edition at World Park, Eidas favorite theme park. Dizziness was taking over her body, part was from the coldness that was called negative ten degrees Fahrenheit. The Trees were after her. She was the last one. Eida laid there as the icy blue roots were crawling up to her and enclosing her in. She knew this Christmas was going to take a wrong turn. She closed her eyes masking in the cold, while the roots ate her alive.
